Best Christmas ever!
« on: December 30, 2009, 06:03:20 PM »
We were down at the inlaws for CHRISTmas this weekend. I got the ussual wool socks at such. They always get me great gifts that are always needed. But, this year my father-in-law hasn't been in the best of health. We got to talking about guns and such and he said that he had an old rifle in the closet for years. I told him I'd oil it up for him if he liked. Well, I had never seen it before and was suprised to find a Winchester 94 in the back of the closet. As I cleaned and oiled it up , he told me he bought the gun new in 1951 (ser# 1859xxx). He bought it for a deer hunting trip to Michigan. He had sighted it in and had shot a box of shells thru it and had another box of shells for it (the second box) in the closet that had one round out of it. After I got it all cleaned up, he told me that he wanted me to have it! Wow, what a great gift! I told him that I would baby it and keep it in the safe. I would love to use it to take a hog one of these years. It is real good condition and has only some light freckling mainly on the lever and underside of the receiver. And like I said it's only had a box of shells run thru it.

Great gift! My cousin has one that was made in 63'...seems to be a tighter action than the latter models.

Beautiful gun.  Is that hammer case colored or are my eyes just playing tricks on me?  My brother has one of the newer 94's that he hunts with.  Awesome little guns.
