Bolt for Butt Stock
« on: December 31, 2009, 08:05:21 AM »
I have been watching the classifieds and have noticed something that puzzles me; when a butt stock or stock set is sold the screw that holds the butt stock to the receiver is more often then not sold with the butt stock and the receiver, if sold, is sold nekked.  Having never ordered a butt stock or stock set from H&R I don't know if a butt stock comes with the screw without asking.  It would seem to me that IF I was to break down one of my Handi Rifles or replaced the butt stock, I'd keep the screw with the receiver unless the it was a UV or Survivor butt stock and took the special hex head screw I've seen with that style butt stock.

I also understand that what ever the parties involved in the transaction agree to is the deal as well.

Regards,

AFAIK, H&R, like most every gun company would, prices and sells the buttstock, stock bolt, and stock bolt washer separately. If I were contemplating such a sale, I would specify up front whether or not the bolt and washer are included and work from there with the buyer.

Over the course of time, both on this site and it's predecessor, the stock bolt has normally and regularly been included with the buttstock when sold. If stocks are traded sometimes each member keeps his own stock bolt to save shipping weight. It is just the way it has always been done here. If someone was to sell a stock without the bolt it would just be mentioned and agreed to, but usually the stock boilt comes with the buttstock. The front forearm screw however usually goes with the barrel and not with the forearm. Again it is just the way most of us have always done it, unless otherwise specified. There may be some here that may try to keep all thier bolts and screws but thankfully I don't know of any....<><....:)

I understand what your saying, however the stock bolt is nothing magical. Its a standard 3/8 fine thread hex head bolt purchased at most hardware stores for less than a dollar, its not like most gun screws that are ultra fine thread.

Stock and forend screw sizes are all listed in the FAQs, as Bob said, they're usually available locally, nothing special about them except the button head for the t-hole stocks are harder to find.  ;)
