11 goose carcasses found in Naperville

December 30, 2009

NAPERVILLE, Ill. (AP) - Some Naperville residents were concerned this week when they found the appparently mutilated carcasses of Canada geese lying near local roadways.

But the Illinois Department of Natural Resources said Wednesday the geese were the victims of inconsiderate hunters - not aliens or Satanists.

Conservation Police Officer Mike Delis said geese are in season in northeastern Illinois through Jan. 9

Eleven goose carcasses were found in Naperville on Monday and Tuesday - all missing their breast portions. Delis said the breast is the part the goose most people like to eat, and what he called “breasting out” is a common hunting practice.

He noted, though, that hunters are not supposed to dump the rest of the bird.

The unlawful discarding of an animal carcass is a misdemeanor carrying fines of up to $1,500.

Those are the same type that cut the hindquarter from the deer and leave the rest. This story will just give more ammunition to the animial rights people.I personally think that anyone who engages in such conduct should loose their right to hunt for life.

JBlk,

We've had the same problem on numerous occasions up north in Wisconsin. Nothing like walking up on a dead, rotting, carcass of a 200lb. doe with only her rear quarters missing. And it's happened when many folks in the area were very hungry. They'd have given anything for the rest of that deer.
