greenwing 28ga
« on: December 31, 2009, 11:28:57 AM »
Hello all, this is my first post here, so please be kind.  I just spotted a Greenwing model 28ga at a local store, at what seems to me a very good price, and I was wondering if the frame on this would be a candidate for putting a 30/30 barrel on, or would it be a shotgun only frame.  I know that this is a pre current NEF gun, and I believe that it is from the '80's or so.  The top is marked 490 junior I believe.

Thanks for your help everyone,

Aaron

Welcome Aaron! The M490 Greenwing was made from 1978-1983, it's based on the M158 which was factory fitted with 30-30 barrels, so if you can find a 30-30 barrel that will fit, it should work fine, but H&R won't fit one to it. ;)

WELCOME Aaron!!

The 28 is one that I do not have in a Handi. I have a couple other shotguns in this gauge, but I have yet to run across a handi so chambered. Its a wonderful gage, performing like a MUCH larger gauge!!

Good luck,

Aaron, just won a Greenwing 20ga. on Gunbroker, looks real good in the pictures, auction # 151183631 if you would like to look at it. I paid 150.00 which includes shipping. I also have a nice old catalog with a description of this model, let me know if you would like a copy of that page.
But a 28ga would be really neat to have go for it.  :) ;D :) ;D Tom Ham7777

My favorite shotun is a sidebyside 28.  It really would be a much better starter gun than the 410's we normally start kids on.  Little recoil and much better pattern than the .410.

I have a couple 158 combo's from the seventies , also have  a couple 158 shottys from the same time frame. The 30-30, 20ga. youth combo's have a .010 smaller diameter firing pin than the plain shotties if I remember them correctly, been a while since I measured them :-\.
