The Carpet on My Political Soap Box is Wearing Out!
« on: December 31, 2009, 12:30:58 PM »
In the mornings, and periodically during the day and evening, I check my favorite threads here on GBO. I have noticed that politics has the majority of my time on reading and responding. What I have been aware of for quite some time is no one moves in any direction, no one changes their mind, and no one concedes that the other might be right. ME INCLUDED!
With that bit of knowledge I am beginning to ask myself: What the hell is the point?
It's not that I am just now realizing this, because I have pretty much known it all along. It's just getting old I guess, at least for me.
Obama, McCain, Bush, Palin, Graham, Gingrich, O'Riley, Beck, Limbaugh, and on, and on, and on, and on.
He says this, I say that. He fires at me with this, I fire back at him with that, or vise-versa. The thread topic may have a different title, but it all ends up back in the same place.
I didn't like it when Bush started one war, and escalated another, but could do nothing about it. I don't like it now, because Obama is basically left our soldiers on their own, and is finishing what Bush started by spending us as a country into oblivion, and once again there is nothing I can do about it.
I KNOW WHAT BUSH WAS, AND I KNOW WHAT OBAMA IS. BUT! There's really nothing I can do about it, but watch my own families ass, and mine and wait and see what happens, and try to be prepared. I am really at a point where I don't care what anyone else does, or how they vote, and I don't really care what the government does. I can only respond when encroached upon. And I will. I always have.
I am going to try and let it go. To debate and argue accomplishes nothing, and it will not change my voting beliefs nor anyone else's.
I just hope I can.

I believe you are right on in all that you say. I do though believe that others lurk, like I did for some time, reading threads, trying to make sense of the questions in his/her head. While I'm not much for heated debates, others may glean important information from the intelligent debates of some here. I respect your decision, and have learned much from what you say.

That's exactly what I was getting ready to type.I have my beliefs and feelings. So does everyone else.I hardly ever get in the debates here, but do read all the threads and form my own opinion about them.No need to argue my point as it's my point.I'll continue to feel the way that I've always felt. Some times I can agree and sometimes not.Good on you Dee.Slow

I often find myself starting to reply to a post, and then stopping.  Seems to help when I ask myself, how much do I really care about this argument?

I also use the ignore feature.  Only problem is sometimes someone I ignore gets "promoted" to moderator.

I have my beliefs and I don't try to push them on others and I ignore others who try to push their beliefs on me.  I guess that's what being an American is all about!  I vote for who I believe will do the best job and I don't get all warped out of shape if my guy loses.  I give the winner my support because he was selected by the majority and now represents all of us.

Some will say that I have a weird philosophy, but I don't care because that's just the way I am.  And I have a right to my beliefs and philosophy because I am an AMERICAN!  nuff said!

Happy New Year everyone!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Dee, as someone who is right there in the fray, I feel your pain. I even made that promise today! and after a few minutes of watching TV, i found myself right back responding to a post you made earlier!  ;)

Sometimes we just need to vent and this is after all a "forum".

The Same thing happens in the senate, why in heck do they debate on the floor, everyone knows how he/she is gonna vote. the deals are made behind the scenes. The debate is for the folks(sheeple) at home, and TV news.

Tell you what I'll do, I'll stay outa the political discussions and see if it makes me feel better, cause lately I feel the same way as you do.

OH and pmeisel if you want you can have my promotion, clear it with GB and its done!  You'll love the pay increase!  ::)

Clodhopper when someone posts their opinions here he aint pushing his beliefs on you, he is voicing his opinion just like you just did. Now if i was knocking on your door that would be different. after all you did come to a public forum to see others opinions did you not?

Oldshooter,
Did I say anything about the opinions of the people on this forum?  If I, in any way, gave the impression in my post that I was refering to any ones opinion then I am sorry and apologize!  Everyone has a right to their opinion and I WILL jump into the fray and defend that!

I come to this "public forum" to get educated in some areas and amused in others and sometimes I jump in and post occasionally myself.

So, Oldshooter, if I in anyway offended or insulted you then I am sorry and apologize!

That's it in a nutshell Oldshooter. I had rather talk to you about somethin like huntin or fishin, or guns, or shootin where there is very little chance of argument with you. I'm tired of the same ole rhetoric from everyone and their opinions on voting and candidates, INCLUDING MY OWN.
I know what I believe, and it doesn't have to correspond with anyone else's beliefs.

I just go to the booth and vote Republican right down the ballot.  I don't really care much anymore.  I'm sure not going to change.

Dee, you probably havn't noticed, as my posts are not that important anyway, but I have backed off of this forum alot in the last 3 months or so. Some of that is due to hunting, but that time has also been a time of reflection & knowing the very things you have just stated. We all pretty much maintain our position. I am thinking more in terms of how to get my family & a few others around me more prepared for what will occur, though the timing is uncertain. Oh, I will comment from time to time, but the time investment of the past is not logical for me, esp. since it changes nothing. Moderating Sm & Med. bores is fun though & does'nt take much daily time.

Hello Dee
I think you underestimate the power of your words. I am sure that on many occasions you have made many reflect on your words.
I have read and taken serious consideration on what you have said.
Please so not think that your statements have been futile.

I thinking more along the lines of redundancy Yankee1. I appreciate your kind words, but to beat an already dead horse to a bloody pulp accomplishes nothing. I think everyone by now pretty well knows where I stand, from candidates to voting methods.

my dady told me when i was very young.."Do not discuss politics or religion with people if you want to remain their friend." he was right but on this forum i look at it as a place to vent your frustrations and your anger. i do not expect to change anyone to my beliefs nor do i even want to.

I've been saying fer years that discussions of politics and religion should be carried on face to face or not at all. I just some times don't heed my own advice.  ;D

I did finally tire of the religion arguments and that's all they ever were and put a stop to that here.

Socrates taught us that the best way to learn is through debate but in order to actually learn anything, you must be open minded and willing to change your views. Political debates today are vacuous because most people come into them with firmly fixed and unchangeable opinions and they learn nothing. They are slaves to somebody's untested political dogma and it is rarely their own. So be it.  ;D

Ya'll keep all these discussions up, I get some good laughs out of them.  I, like everyone else have my opinion and I'm the only one right but I'm know my opinion is like a nose (bet you thought I was going to say another part of the anatomy), everyone has one and there are only a couple of people I care to bump noses with.

There are times I feel like blowing up too.  I hate that Americans keep putting putting elitest, self seeking bad words in office instead of those that really have the best interest of America, freedom, and most of all in the preservation of the constitution where it will serve this country another 200+ years in the way the designers intended.

Happy New Years

We all hope it can be changed by the ballot box. I am afraid the politicians that think as we do, "think as we do!" as has been stated above in this thread. They don't see where they will get support in this country because we are too easily led in different dirrections with small "one carrot" offerings. Others will vote "against" someone for one thing, one thing will seal thier vote.

The candidates that we feel support our beliefs need to know it to encourage them they arn't alone. Just because they get TV time doesn't mean they feel supported. We need to contact them and voice our support. One dollar and a comment that we support them "and" will increase our support and "work effort" if they mount a campaign might encourage them enough that they make a real effort. They need more word from the silent majority.

I don't know anything else that "might be" effective at this point. Does any one else? We have a lot to lose by not at least trying. I will keep sending in my votes of confidence, a dollar and a promise, and hope one will go from secret hopes to feeling like enough people in this country want what is right that they will stand up for it, the candidate and us voters. I don't know what else even might work. Do any of you?

$10 dollars can let 10 people know you are there and will support them. Pick some people.

There are youngsters out here as well as the mature uninformed Dee. Perhaps you can change some of their minds. I remember back when I was young and still forming my opinions. They have changed dramatically over the years largely due to people like you who have helped widen the "field of view" so to speak. I think you would be surprised just have many opinions are alteredhere. People may not admit it in the threads, but we are all influenced. Some just more than others.

NOPE! They can vote themselves (and me) into oblivion. I have put the whole thing to rest I hope. CYA, and watch it fall, they will never learn.
I will support honest Constitutionalists, both with my vote, and money, and they can continue to vote and elect the D.C. mafia good ole boys. I will go down swingin not compromising my rights away out of fear.
