My canvas shooting jacket has a linear burn on it from fuse remnants from a golf ball mortar. The best thing to do is put an empty soda can or something like that in the path that the fuze fragment takes and catch them.
I think I'll only be shooting cannons there. An 'area weapon' like a mortar might take out someone else's target stand. A little piece of formed 16 ga steel attached with a hose clamp over the vent should do the job.
It would be a bummer to have a fuse not set off the charge right before a line break (when all guns need to be unloaded). I'm thinking electric ignition might be safer and more reliable when there are a other shooters around. These kinds of concerns have kept me away from bringing my cannons to established shooting ranges.
Burro canyon does have private ranges that can be reserved, but it's $20 per person, $80 minimum/day. Might be worth it if I could just find
someone who shoots cannons. Anyone on this forum do stuff like that?
