Happy New Year, everyone. Hope some of you are having better weather than the rain and wind we are experiencing here in Northern Kaliforny.

Yesterday it was sunny and 70 degrees here. There were sulfur butterflies flying around my yard.

Happy New Year.

Yea.  But some of us have the advantage of making a dozen snowballs and putting them away in the freezer for next AUGUST!   ;D

Tim, I'm familar with the joys of snow, having grown up in the Southern Highlands just south of you. How many times have you heard " I've told you a million times about tracking snow into this house". By the way, Did the missus make some of those wonderful sugar cookies and chocolate chip cookies for the holidays?

Yeah, but ask Max about the nice weather when late July rolls around. His part of the country is broiling in almost 100% humidity and triple-digit temps about that time. And don’t even ask a resident of the South about hurricanes and such. Life’s a trade-off wherever you live. I’m in the soggy Pacific Northwest (where the summers here are very mild and we have great weather around 4 months out of each year) and remember those Florida summers all too well. I don’t miss them one bit!

Yeah, I remember those Florida summers too, and I don't miss them...each year they keep coming.  :'(
Nice to get the arctic air like we've got right now, though! 8)

I saw the Tampa ice situation on the news tonight and couldn't believe it. I remember going to a small WW2 re-enactment at the Dade Masscre park in the 90s right before CHRISTmas and roasting my backside off in oppresive heat!
This year here in the Pac NW, we got a little chilly in December, but nothing like the midwest got at all. In the Puget Sound area where I live, we get a constant gulfstream type conveyor from the south pacific. Living less than 40 miles from the coast, we get a lot of rain (drizzle but East coast standards, you can be out in it all day and not get as wet as running to your car in one of those southeast dreanchers you get in the srping and fall) and some alternating breezy conditions sometimes (but mostly along the coast). We got more than our normal share of lowland snow last winter but only in the mountains this year, like is normal for winter here.
We had a record high here today, 57 degrees. Per NOAA, we're supposed to see high 40s and low 50s through the week. Lows will be in the high 30s at the coldest and will be into the mid 40s for lows. It's rainy off and on. Heck, it was sunny the entire week of Christmas, the first time that's happened since I moved here in 1998!
