Trade FA 353 357 magnum for FA 454 ??? opinions
« on: December 31, 2009, 11:11:26 PM »
Guys. New poster but long time lurker. I have a three digit Model 353 6 inch field grade in excellent condition.
I am thinking of trading it for a 454. Should I just keep it or trade it?
If I was to trade ot do you think a straight across trade is fair.

Thanks !!!

There are many, many more FA .454's than .357 353 / 83's. However, the 353's are not rare by any means, and the fact that it is a FG with a 3 digit serial number carries no collector premium value at all.
Should you trade it ? Who knows ? It depends upon what you plan to do with it / them. I own examples of each and like them all. The .454 is UNNECESSARY (whatever THAT means) unless you plan to hunt game larger than deer or hogs, however, "necessary" isn't a word that usually enters into my decision making on handguns.
Even though there are more .454's, the .353's seem to sell used for a bit less, in my observation, so an even swap for guns in equal condition and use is an okay deal for the .353 owner in my opinion.
Personally, I would opt for both. They serve 2 different purposes.

Ken.....Thanks. I have a Ruger in 454 and I am about to setup to reload for it.
I guess that having the model 83 in 454 as well is the way to go.
