That is a great picture, NG.
What is that object seen sticking up at an angle at about mid river, and how many shots did it take to sink it? ;)
RIP John. While on vacation July 4th 2013 in northern Wisconsin, he was ATVing with family and pulled ahead of everyone and took off at break-neck speed without a helmet. He lost control.....hit a tree....and the tree won.  He died instantly.

The one thing that you can almost always rely on research leading to, is more research.

Nice picture. Did the ball go all the way across the river or was it a blank?  That tall building across the river in the right of the picture? Made of Brick? Nice architecture.

Looks like it is either a snag (mostly sunken tree part) or a inland relative of Nessie.

several old ships have been found in the river dating back to the times of the lumber barons of Michigan.  I was using just foil wrapped charges of 600 grains. We had a topsail schooner and a replica sidewheeler loaded with Marines from the USS Michigan Marine Guard and a couple of secessh unit. I furnished the shore battery. With the traffic on the river live firing was a no-no but don't think the thought hadn't entered my mind. LOL.
