I mounted it on my .35 Remington 336 this morning.  I used a Weaver base but I mounted the base backwards (from the way I normally do)to get the ocular lens in the right place and to clear the adjustment ring better.  My wife had given me a set of Weaver Tip-offs for Christmas and they worked perfectly.  I also added an Uncle Mike's Hammer extension.  This is going to be my new primary hunting rifle.

I like the Nikon prostaff 3x9-40.  It is a low profile scope that fits well on the marlin.

I have 3 of the Nikon Prostaff 2-7X32s and a 3-9X40 and I really like them.  I only sprang for the 3200 Elite because it's supposed to retail for 289.00.

I picked up (2) Leupold 3-9 compacts. One is going on a 336 35 rem and one on a 1895G 45/70. Both with low rings. They don't look too bad. Never wanted to scope any of my Lever guns but going to give it a try on these two first, to see if I like it. Going to the range to sight them in today after work, and will hunt them this weekend.

Nothing to it really.  You just cut it to the width you want.  I suggest a sharp knife and a metal straight edge for that.  Tandy sells a plastic device for smoothing the edges and putting that little decorative line along the edge.  They also sell hole punches.

Swampman- can you tell a big difference between the 3200 and the prostaffs?

Not really, I like them both.  This 3200 Elite is supposed to retail for $289.00.  At $139.77 I couldn't pass it up.  It has less eye relief and a larger ocular lens than the Nikon.  For a Handi (or a hard kicker) I'd go with the Nikon Prostaff because you can mount it lower and it has more eye relief.  On the 336 Marlins either is fine.

I usually like the old 3x leupolds on my marlin levers but if a guy wants a varable the 2-7 is the cream of the crop in my opinion.

The Leupold 3-9 Compacts worked out great at the range last night, on both 336 35 Rem & 1895 G 45/70. The compact size looks good on the Levers, well, at least not bad. No scope bite, and can dial in or out as needed. I'll be hunting them this weekend, if I don't freeze to death first.

Swampy, the leupold m8 3x has been discontinued for years. I find them in the used market and have bought nice used ones for as little as $125.00, although they usually ask more than that for them. $175-200 being usually what you can buy them for.

I got it to the range today.  I didn't have a lot of time and the weather was awful but I shot a 3/4" group at 50 yards with the 180 Speer ammo.

I love my old pre-crossbolt safety 35 rem.  That is a mighty pretty one you have.  One word of caution second hand though.  My gunsmith told me to watch the leather shoulder strap in the rain.  He said something about the tanins in the leather stripping off bluing if it comes in contact with the metal for too long.  Just thought I would pass that along for what it's worth.

maybe that is what happened to the old levers carried in saddle scabbards for
so long and the revolvers carried in leather holsters. Don't give it to him Swamp
he is try to get off with you new sling.
