If you can stand the cold if there is still corn on the ground in that field you should be seeing deer. They will need the fuel to keep warm. It has averaged 20* up here in the Tri-cities E TN today with a little wind. Wind chill feels about 0 to me. We had 2" snow last night and this morning.

Yes, it is. And deer season is over here in NC. Well... at least the freezer's full!

Dad called this morning complaining it was cold.  he said it was in the 20s in Hendersonville.  I laughed, he asked me what it was here.  I told him it was -35 and that I had been out for the last four hours checking my traps.  Dad hung up, Mom had to call me back.

But we are doing good now, it's warmed up to 2 below.

Yup the entire south is getting frozen over. I read yesterday that 61% of the lower 48 is covered in snow and come Thursday the deep south is supposed to become a part of that statistic they are telling us.

This morning it is 17 here and my pond is completely iced over. There is a frost that looks almost like snow it is so heavy. But they say it's gonna get colder before it warms again. We're supposed to drop down to single digits the next few nights and they are talking of highs in the teens over the weekend and that's here in Bama south of you guys. I know it must be even colder up your way.

My brother is down from Alaska.  He is a bush pilot out of Anchorage.  I took him deer hunting this weekend and he froze his backside off.  He says its a different kind of cold then what he is used to.  He said that its a wet cold and that in AK its a dry cold if that makes any sense.  I guess its like comparing the dry heat of out west to our humid heat of the south.

JimFromTN:  Yes, I know what he is talking about.  I grew up in Tennessee, the cold there in winter is bone chilling.  It chills you deep and takes a while to warm up when you go inside.  Up here (I live in North Pole Alaska) it does not bite all the way through you.  Last night a couple of guys and I were talking about how we run around up here.  We were pumping gas, and all three of us was standing outside our vehicles with out a coat on, just our shirt sleeves.  The temp was -5.  So what, no big deal with us.  We are only out there for 5 to 10 minutes.

It is 8:30 am and it has warmed up to 17* up here in East TN. I have 10" of snow at my house and it is still snowing a little. It is a light powder snow, thank goodness. Not that wet heavy stuff of a few weeks ago that took out our power and everything for days. I hope the weather reporter misses the forecast for tomorrow. They are calling for around 6 more inches snow.

It has been so cold that I have seen some rabbit dogs carrying a battery and jumper cables around trying to find a rabbit to see if they could jump start him.  ;D  Just kidding.

My brother and I are driving from Dallas to Nashville this weekend, hope it is gone by then.  If it's not I'll have to drive, since he has never driven in snow.  And he will be leaving his fingerprints in the dash all the way.

Up here in Alaska when we drive we are always playing around.  Everyone cuts broadies in the parking lots, just for fun.  Yesterday the Ford Dealer was at a luncheon with me.  We were talking about the new vehicles.  He told us we could not cut broadies with the new Ford Truck.  That the anti skid feature would not let you.  We all had to try it.  Darn, the truck would not spin.  It would just kind of squat, the engine would slow down, and it would go straight.  They are taking the fun out of driving on snow.

Last night I was driving my son's car.  I decided to go back in the other direction.  I just snatched up the emergency brake and spun the car 180 degrees.  Guess the son was not expecting it, he screamed, did a little cussing, threatened to get out and walk.  Darn, he is just like his mother, not into having fun.  I usually do that two of three times a week when I am driving around by myself.  He and his mother both say my trucks don't know how to go straight, they are always going down the road sideways, because I am playing around.  Life is too short, have some fun.

I-40 is not a problem around Nashville. We live 40 miles west of Nashville and the wife drove in this am. She said no snow on the interstate or ice.

Not any more!  today (Jan 18) it's now 23 degrees and snowing lightly here, and tomorrow it's supposed to get up to 35 with some sun. Here in VT I've not seen sun only twice in the past 2 1/2 weeks.  Global warming may be coming back!!  Maybe some of the two feet of snow in my back yard will melt away now.
