« on: January 02, 2010, 12:16:53 PM »
Bought a Kicks Gobblin' Thunder choke tube (.670 diameter) for my 835 Ulti-Mag today and does not fit.  Too small to screw into the barrel threads.  Any help is much apprectiated.  Thanks.

with that small choke diameter and the fact that it's too small to thread into your gun i'm going to guess that you bought a choke that fits the model 500 instead of the 835. 835 chokes are threaded .875x32 threads as the 835 has the same backbore as a 10ga to shoot the 3&1/2 shells. also, an extra full turkey choke for that gun should be about the same diameter as a standard full-about .690 or so. 500s on the other hand are threaded .812x32 for standard sized chokes and a turkey choke for them would be about .670 or so. hope this helps. good luck and good shootin' neighbor, bubba.

Thanks guys.  The only thing I can figure out is that I had the wrong tube in the right box.  Got it from Bass Pro.

if you bought it in store it was probably handled by a clerk that knows as much sporting goods as i know rocket science. some of their customers aren't much better. so, you're probably lucky they even showed you a choke tube at all. they get multiple items out for customer to compare and then no-one knows what goes where. my opinion, based on personal experience, and worth what you paid for it, bubba.

Ended up calling the folks at Kicks (manufacturer) and expalined the problem to the guy.  He is sending me a free replacement.  You actually get to talk with live people with none of that hold crap.

I dealt with Kick's directly when I bought my Gobblin' Thunder choke for my 870 Supermag. Great people to work with. I got a .660 constriction, based on Kick's recommendation. The patterns with 3 1/2" #6 and 3" #5 are unbelievable. I can't imagine a Undertaker doing better.

like i said i havent tried but one shot on paper but it was not as impressive as the undertaker with 3 1/2's   i never counted the shot in the head and neck but with the undertaker i was putting around 90 shot in the head and neck at 30 yards
if the snow would melt and it would get above freezing here in southwest virginia i would see if the gobblin thunder was worth the money

I had to try different shells to get the pattern I wanted with the Kick's, but that is true of any choke. The shells Kick's recomended I try with their choke was the Winchester High Velocity turkey shells. They said with my constriction (.660) 3" with 1 3/4 oz of #5 shot and with 3 1/2" 2 oz of #6. They were right. Unless you want to spend a lot on different shells, give Kick's a call and ask them what they recommend. They were very friendly and helpful when I spoke to them. In fact, the owners wife answered when I called.

does yours shoot a lot better with the high velocity loads?
i was shooting just the $15 winchester   thats what was shooting pretty good for me    i figured it would do better but dont want to spend a lot of money on shells either
i did shoot good with the federal flight control and remington too all #6 shot but the regular federal 2 1/4 #6 shot terrible
thanks for the info     i'll give them a call and see what they say

Both the High Velocity loads are 1/4 oz lighter than a standard turkey load. They did pattern better than the standard Federal and Winchester loads I tried. In fact, the worst of the lot was the Federal 2 1/4 oz #6 shot 3 1/2" shell. It was pitiful.

have you shot any of the hevi-shot brand shells?  i was wanting to try them but didnt want to buy a box and shoot one and throw the rest away
what kind of pattern did you get with the high V shells? or do you fool with counting the pellets in the head and neck

I haven't tried the Hevi-shot. Lead just works too good.

With the 3 1/2" #6's I got 74 pellets in the head/neck of a HS turkey patterning target at a measured 45 yards. The 3" #5's did 51.

Big time on the Limbsaver! I have one on the Supermag, Mossberg 930 semi auto and my Encore. Love 'em. ;D
