Soaking a felt hat, part II
« on: October 28, 2003, 07:47:34 AM »
Turns out that adding a bit of paper towel inside my hat band did the job (see other post below); BUT on Saturday we were at stage 1, parked at stage 6 and the bottom of the sky fell out.  By the time I got everything in the truck I had water in my cylinders and they had been in the holsters!
The hat was soaked through and through.
Dried it out overnight (under a ceiling fan) and added the paper towel back in and good as new.  At least the rain hadn't made it larger.

:) A punchline of "Soaking Your Head" keeps coming to mind; but anyway, sorry ya got rained out, if I can't shoot, at least it helps if someone else does.

Ya mean ya quit shootin' 'cause of some rain? That's what the hat is for!

Looks like you're south of where the wind comes sweeping down the plains. But if I remember the wind doesn't recognize the Red River as a stopping place. I'm sure that's how you got water in your holsters. Last time I was in OK I shot with a bunch there. Nice guys but their stages were different. They all seemed to go something like:

1) draw 1st pistol and shoot L-R 1-2-3-2-1
2) holster
3) pick up hat
4) put hat on
5) draw 2nd pistol and shoot R-L 1-2-3-2-1
6) holster
7) pick up hat
8) put hat on
9) pickup rifle and shoot 1-2-3-4-5-4-3-2-1
10) Put hat..........

you get the idea.
