What's open in January?
« on: January 03, 2010, 01:20:44 PM »
I'm going down South to visit my Mom and Dad.  Will be in Sumner, Smith, and Jackson counties.  What will be open at that time?

What Is A Veteran?
A 'Veteran' -- whether active duty, discharged, retired, or reserve -- is someone who, at one point in his life, wrote a blank check made payable to 'The United States of America,' for an amount of 'up to, and including his life.' That is honor, and there are way too many people in this country today who no longer understand that fact.

Deer Closes Jan 10.  No other big game except for wild boar but thats only on private land.
Waterfowl closes the end of Jan.
Small game closes the end of Feb.

Go to the TWRA website and download the hunting regs.  They also have a list of Wildlife Management Areas you can hunt if you don't have access to private land.  If you don't have access to private land but you do have access to a canoe, you can float some of the mid sized rivers and have the opportunity to shoot ducks, geese, squirrels, and rabbits.

Thanks Jim, I am arriving there on the 11th.  How about Coyotes?

Coyotes are open year round.  I don't know what kind of land access you are going to have while you are down here but if you hunt public lands, which there is allot of good coyote hunting on them, you need to look at the regs to find out what is legal to hunt them with.  On private land you can hunt them with anything you want but in the Wildlife Management Areas I don't think you can use centerfire ammunition unless it is deer season and you have a big game license.

Did you ever get to do any hunting while you were down here?
