Often as not on my morning walk or just before I go to sleep.  For sure in the woods.  I help run a church for others to attend.  Personally I've completely given up on it.  It makes me feel kinda sick to think about them.

and yet another thread about how bad things are and everyone else posts to it. Zantac is not for acid reflux it is not a protein pump inhibitor.  It merely neutralizes the acid you have it does not cut down the amount of acid produced like ppi's do.  it is like putting a band aid on a bleeding aorta. It looks good for now, but in a few it will leak all over again.  If your dr prescribed zantac 75 otc for acid reflux, get another dr.  If you went to a pharmacy and bought zantac otc go back and get prilosec otc.  At least you are doing somethng. Yeah the heartburn will go away but the bleeding wont.  protein pump inhibitor ask for one.    Oh and if you didnt care about what most of us thought, you would not keep posting things for our opinions.

I didn't want to turn this into a religous thread, but I think it applies here. I never go to the internet to seek guidance, it's the worst place you can look.  I as a person really don't know ya.  I feel that if I did, we might become good friends.  I care about ya.  I am commanded to.

  Dale, I've never liked alchohol.  I just couldn't stand the feeling or the buzz. I have known addiction though. Dale quitting smoking was the hardest thing I've ever done.  It's the biggest accomplishment I've ever achieved, yet very few know about it.  It was and still is my secret problem.  I still struggle with it.  I keep a box of patches in my drawer to this day.  I enoyed smoking, but I knew it was time for me to get rid of this thing that had such control over my life. I know that it had to be done not only for my health, but for my family.

Dale...Our kids and the kids of our family members look at everything we do and will one day try to imitate it.  How many times have we heard from someone that we are just like one of our parents?  I hear it all the time.  Heck, I even walk like my father did.  I walk bow legged and wear the edges of all my shoes in the same place he did.  My aunts say that I talk like him all the time. I buy Dodges like he did.  I find myself using the same old Ford and Farmall tractors (801 Workmaster, F-30, H, and Super M)that he did all the time even though I have much newer ones under the shed.  This was not by a freak accident of genetics, it was by choice.  We are who we are from.  Do you want your kids falling into the same traps you did?  For the most of us it's a big no.  I admire you for what you are doing and sometimes honesty is what we all need.  It's just we all hide our problems and you are not alone.  You just chose to share them.  The internet is full of perfect people who do everything right.  Ignore them as I have found most of these people are as phony as a $3 watch.  They come and go and last about just as long.
You ever wonder how so many people claim that every rifle they have shoots MOA and they are all debt free and rich?  How many people do you know that have everything in their lives totally squared away and perfect?  I don't know any.

You can find a lot of things when you are truly looking. You can hear alot of things when you are really listening.  I can hear the faintest crack of a pine needle when it breaks under a deer's hoof when I'm hunting because the hunt has my undivided attention. Yet I can't hear my wife in the next room when she asks me to run to the store. What kind of attention do you give God? You know He's real and so is old Satan.  Satan tries to convince us that we have plenty of time to get right with God.  The fact is all our time is limited....Nobody knows how long they are going to be allowed to walk this earth.  If you live to see the next day, it's because God allows it.  He has things for you to do.  If you enter a church for entertainment like a lot of folks now do, you will never be happy in church. You'll hate it. I go to spend time with my Lord. Sometimes I listen to the preacher and sometimes I am off in my own little world talking to God about some of my problems.  See Dale, my earthly father died a long time ago when I was 19.  He left but my heavenly Father has always been there for me to listen to my problems. Now some say that God can't talk to them, I say hogwash.  That's why he uses his Holy Spirit to drive you into understanding and peace. It's not your conscience...It's God.   I could not care less about what I'm wearing or what others drive to church.  It's not a fashion show.  I've attended my small church in shorts and jeans on most occasions.  How anybody could not see divine craftsmanship in the outdoors is beyond me. This place we enjoy didn't just happen, it was created.   Spend time with God Dale.  You can't beat this addiction alone.  I couldn't.  I heard nicotine is 3x more addictive that heroine.  I imagine alchohol is worse for some.   Sorry for the long post:  I hoep you read it.   Good Luck  Dale

Boy this one went just like I said it would. On his pukin up blood thread, he made a total of 4 very short posts, and got 3 pages of responses.
On this one he has, made two short posts, and it's on it's second page. Pretty effective. :o

Ranitidine is a good first try med. It does block the release of acid into the stomach. It blocks the acid secretion differently, though, than proton pump inhibitors. For many people, it's effective. For many people, they need to move up to the ppi's.
Ranitidine can be purchased at Walmart in a 90 day supply (180 tabs) for $10 or $12---that's another reason to give it a try first.

Leave the prescribing up to the doctor that he went to. We can't really diagnose from across cyberspace. I do agree, however, that a scope of the esophagus should be the next line of action, but again, the MD that met with you--and you--need to come to that conclusion.

Many of us are glad you are seeking medical help. Many are giving you spiritual help as well. Both are vital for your survival.  Your family needs you to heed both forms of "treatment"

Well Dale, Glad you got some medical help! I agree with the Zantac thing not being everything you need, spitting blood, sounds a weee bit more than what a zantac is meant to fix, so follow up with the doc. All I know about you Dale is what you have posted, and frankly, I think you care more about what people think than you let on!  ::)  If you didn't care, you may not have posted about not caring. You may not care for what they say about you, but I do believe you care.

Either way, everyone but sociopaths, really care what people think. From what I have read most here genuinely are concerned about your health, some just may not think you are!(by some things you post) Show em wrong and take care of yourself.

I seriously doubt he's seen a doctor. Doctor's don't prescribe OTC medications as a script is not required. Besides how many doctors do you think were in their office and waiting to see patients over the holiday and on weekends?

He will do what he will do. Those of us with the same problem he has have given him the advice our medical doctors gave us. I've lived with it now for over 30 years and only been aware of what it was and what was needed to treat it properly for at most ten if that long. If you don't have acid reflux ya really just do not understand what it's all about. It ain't heartburn.

3030MAN. Good post Sir. God is the key. I tried quitting smoking for a long time. I finally asked my church to pray for me and God gave me the strength to quit. All things are possible through him.  POWDERMAN.  ;D ;D

Sure am glad i didn't get on here and ask for any sympathy when my wife laid in a coma for thirteen months before she died as the results of a botched up heart transplant. I sure hope bubba enjoyed paying for that one because my health insurance would not cover most of it and i could not pay it. My wife was a believer and what good did it do her?  Sorry about that. I don't usually get into talking about religion or politics. Just had to say what was on my mind. Believe me Dale i do care. I sure don't hate you. Hope everything turns out ok for you.

    i have read your posts for a long time.   what i notice is when someone tells you the truth, or gives you solid advice, you get angry and hostile.    people who are well intentioned try to handle you with soft gloves, but they are doing you no favors.   those who blatantly tell you what it is are your best friends, and you get mad at them.    ::)

hopefully it earned her a place in heaven.  it is easy to curse God when we are desperate.  have you ever thought that maybe her faith in him carried her through until the end?  if it didnt break her faith, i would reckon that she wouldnt want it to break yours.

I have heard talk here about one's "demons", and Dale has said that we ALL HAVE DEMONS. Well! I don't have any "demons" I have "weaknesses" in my character. How I deal with those "weaknesses" in my character are also affected by MY ADMISSION TO PERSONAL RESPONSIBILITY.
I have had, and do have alcoholics in my family. I also spent 20 years professionally dealing with alcoholics, drunks, what ever you want to call them in all stages of their drinking career. I have also listened to the arguments of it's being a disease, and not being a disease. I for one do not believe you can bottle and bond, or can, a disease in which if the bottle or can is removed the symptoms completely go away.
Drinking alcohol is a CHOICE, taking drugs is a CHOICE, smoking is a CHOICE, cussing is a CHOICE, pornography is a CHOICE, gambling is a CHOICE, pedophilia is a CHOICE, and on, and on, and on.
Several decades ago when folks with college degrees found out that the study they got their degree in, didn't have a job to go with it, they invented themselves a job. Now you don't have to explain why you stopped by the bar, or the liquor store on your way home, you can tell your family and friends you have a disease. No need to accept responsibility for your actions, you have a disease.
My entire family on my fathers side smoked, so it was a natural thing for me to smoke. HEY! I grew up seein it. It "looked" very enjoyable and very adult. I started smokin when I was 12. Felt like crap, but HEY! Everybody in the family does it, so it must be ok. Then when all my uncles whom were just a few years older than me started dying from heart disease brought on by smokin? Hmmmmmmm
Time to quit, or die. I quit. No patches, no gums, no drugs, no counseling, no meetings and support groups. I just simply said: This crap will kill you if you keep it up. I quit. That simple. Lesson? TAKING CONTROL, AND RESPONSIBILITY OF MY OWN ACTIONS.
My wife of 23 years was married to an alcoholic for 15 years before we met. One day, she got up and left. She had told him she eventually would, and she once said: Tell me one good thing that comes from drinkin, and I'll drink with ya. NO ANSWER! There isn't anything.
Up until a short time ago I have been an occasional drinker all of my adult life. BUT! I never needed it. Most vices are NEVER anything you actually need. It's all about "WANT"!
My stepson whom has been in a lot of trouble over the years, once told me, that if I had been his father, maybe he wouldn't be the way he was. I told him: You know what your doing is wrong. Your now an adult. Why are you still blaming others?
There are three questions in this life, that we should ask ourselves DAILY, and OFTEN, and all three have to do with SELF EXAMINATION.
They are: #1 WHAT ARE YOU DOING? #2 IS IT RIGHT, OR WRONG? #3 NOW WHAT ARE YOU GOING TO DO ABOUT IT?
I do this daily, and I constantly disappoint myself, but I continually do it. It is all about TAKING RESPONSIBILITY FOR MY OWN ACTIONS.

Now many here will not agree with me, but if you have read my posts on other topics, you already know about changing my mind. At 60 years old, and due to my past profession and environment, I have seen much more than the average guy. Life is, what it is, and it ain't gonna change unless YOU CHANGE.
All my bad habits are NOT DEMONS, but WEAKNESSES IN MY CHARACTER. I repent to GOD, MY FAMILY, and I know that REPENTANCE IS REQUIRED OF ME TO GOD, EACH AND EVERY TIME I FAIL, and He loves me. Why? Because He said HE did.
So Dale. I don't hate ya brother, but a spade ain't nothin more than a nuther word for shovel.
You can Cowboy Up, or you can sit down and have another drink. Either way, life will go on for everyone else.
This ain't tuff love, it's just simply the facts of life the way I have viewed them, and watched them over 60 years of my own WEAKNESSES and others WEAKNESSES as well. jmo

Dale;
  We all have our weaknesses..only one perfect man ever walked this earth. We often have someone with whom to confide our problems, bnut rarely do we take intimate weaknesses out into something as broad as the internet; not the best thing to do.
  You have been offered much wisdom here and very little recriminmation. Dee has posted a whole treatise on the subject for you..and all of it good advice.
  Acid reflux..My wife has suffered with it (and several other things) for years. She takes Nexium (very costly)..that helps but she didn't get a handle on the reflux until she realized..NOTHING TO EAT PAST DINNER ! When one goes to bed with the food copmpletely digested there is little left to crowd back up. Bill spoke about Barrett's syndrome..nothing to play with..it is a pre-cancerous condition.
     Alcohol..I never use it nor do many of my friends & family..none overuse it..so I am not an authority on the subject,; but it seems that alcohol being a strong, natural poison... if overused cannot be doing either your stomach, it's enzymes or natural, necessary organisms any favors. I also understand that some folks cannot just drink "some" alcohol. If a man has that problem, he had best eschew all alcohol..and have support (AA) in doing it.
  Some suggested a good, Biblical & friendly church..I can from personal experience, endorse that. Be sure it is a real, Bible-believing church  and not a social club. Here's a couple hints (IMO);
  1) Call a local church that looks genuine and ask the person who answers the phone, " How can I be saved and be sure of a home in Heaven" ? If that person , or someone they hand the phone to, can't answer your question in the next couple sentences..check somewhere else...see (1 John 5:13).

 2) If you are about to decide to visit a local church..park near there next Sunday morning and watch the people exit after service. If they nearly bust out the door coming out and walk quickly to their cars  in making a hasty getaway..be wary;... they may be just "fulfilling and obligation". On the other hand, if they linger after service and chat with each other..perhaps stopping on the way to their car to chat with friends..that just may be a friendly church.

   Don't worry about folks here "liking you". First off, I really believe that despite our often differences at the potbellied stove..at least 90% of us would enjoy each other's company. We have more in common than we have separating us.
  Take TM7's advice...be most concerned with your close ones at home. Honestly, TM probably catches more abuse here than most..and still comes up smiling..can't help but respect that kind of resiliency !

  And Bobg;
   My condolences for your loss..but truly, blaming God won't help. We must keep the "big picture" in view. God does not deal in short time periods such as 70 or 80 years ..he deals in millennia. A" thousand years is but a day" to Him..he is dealing with the eternal ! Our "life" is an eternity..the "kindergarten" of 20-30-50-70-90 years to be spent here on earth, the rest with Him in Heaven. There is an old country song which says, "He never promised me a rose garden"..that is so true of the life we are to live on this old world..the beautiful garden to come later. ...And "when we've been there 10,000 years" we've only just begun. I suggest you also find a good church, just as suggested for Dale..likely, your beloved wife would be ev er so pleased. She may have gained a special reward for her suffering and still remaining faithful.... here in kindergarten.
If you don't want the truth, don't ask me.  If you want something sugar coated...go eat a donut !  (anon)

I have been i lots of churches, churches are not to my liking because of the people in them. I watched too much of what the people did after or before
church. I learned more about GOD in an AA meeting than i ever could in a church
the people there were what they were and all knew why they were there.
You just don't go to AA because you smoke too much or eat too much ice cream. Like i said before
i am sure people can stop by their self, but i could not, i had to have some help.
If you want to get well you better lay that bottle down, i have acid reflux and it
is better now that i am not pouring alcohol on it. That is not why i quit drinking
though, i could take the medicine and still drink. Try sitting up to sleep, that helps
wish i could remember the name of the pill the dr. has me on works as well
as the purple pill about $4.50 each. Dale i have no problem with you other than
seems like you want to talk about problems and not fix them, talking won't make them go away. You can drink all you want, the problem is still there
it won't go away, may get bigger. Not one bad thing in life will get better with a drink.

bob, what you shared and the questions you asked, yes can't be answered. Only your wife knew what her belief in God did for her. Feeling helpless to stop the pain of our loved ones can cause anger to come out. We don't always know where that anger will go. Hopefully it wasn't at others. Thankfully anger at God, for me, at the time, stopped it from being directed at others. My God, I'm sure, can take it.

Billy if you were in the hospital where I work I would have the keys to your room and you can paint it with feces of you like, and I would not be cleaning it.  I would just be giving you the needles to help you not see the bad clowns any longer.

bobg send me your address and bills. I will be glad to help someone who really needs it but not an attention seeker.  I work with that type all day.  I love how I post reality abd I am the one who gets run down.  It is ok I have big shoulders and my eyes are open.

TM I think if we ask around who is having paranoid delusions you would be the first one to get medicated.

TM you and cousin Jimmy could sit and tell stories of paranoid Jewish delusions for days.

    Bobg;
   Your wife was a believer...so it is likely she is waiting there "beyond the sunset". where... once you also graduate from this spiritual kindergarten, you can join her for that blissful eternity. There will then be no more tears, pain etc.

       "And God shall wipe away all tears from their eyes; and there shall be no more death, neither sorrow, nor crying, neither shall there be any more pain: for the former things are passed away". (Rev 21:4)

                                                                                                     May God Bless you richly.... Ironglow
