safety test cannon proof test.

Should this test be good enough?
Canon charged with ½ cannon balls weight in gunpowder and one ball (This is called a singelskud)
Then,
Canon charged with ½ cannon balls weight in gunpowder and two balls. The first ball will be right on the powder (double-iron). This is to test the bottom and tabs force..
afterwards Canon charged with ½ cannon balls weight in gunpowder and one ball (This is called a singelskud)
Then inspection.

Mvh

ball weight and material ? lead or iron ??
powder granulation ??

estimated max charge weight for future live fire

Gary, great site, lots of old stuff in the links section. Hard to read, but thanks for posting it!

Dan,
We've been warned about this kind of vulgarity, now please clean up your act. I don't think you should be given any kind of special treatment, just because you're Swedish. ::)

So that's a knippel skud; my deepest appologies, Dan, it's me that should have my mind dry laundered. ;)  But there's something about those two words pronounced together (even though I'm probably mispronouncing them) that sounds nasty: Knippel skud, knippel skud, knippel skud! :D

Seriously folks! I was going to post this photo, but never got to it. Its from a West Indies museum, and it was recovered from a wreck, but I didn't make note of the name of either. I had never seen another example of the solid shot with spikes coming out of it before, so I assumed it was rare, but I guess I was mistaken. I don't really get (pun intended) the point of it, it seems to me that there are better projectiles to shred sail, and tear up rigging; and woudn't the spikes just have a tendency slow it down if it hit wood?

it have probably been as many designs of ammo to muzzle loaders as it have been designers
the bar shot is a good example , how big is the chance that it comes the way its pretended to do ??
if you turn it around 90 degrees it will not make any more damage to the rigging then a standard ball
