Silk toilet paper and gold wheel weights
« on: January 04, 2010, 03:22:15 PM »
I just saw the most ridiculous thing in the Cabelas spring fishing catalog. A one ounce fishing sinker for $7.69. It's a kind of bullet sinker that's used for bass fishing. They are made of tungsten, which makes it the biggest waste of tungsten I've ever seen. Comparable lead weights that are just as good cost about a quarter.

And it's probably a better value for the buck. At least you'd get some satisfaction from it.

Then there are the hand made, micro-checkered and inlaid ebony disposable toothpicks.

And Cabelas sells silk toilet papper, never heard of such.  ;D I guess their claim to be the #1 outfitter in the world must be true. Who would-a-thunk-it.  :o

I just made up all the items except for the $8 fishing sinker. The others had to be made up because I needed more examples of ostentatious examples of wasted money. Sorry. I should have been clear about that. Come to think of it, though, I just wore out a flannel shirt. Maybe I should go cut it up and try it out. It's soft and absorbent.

Why make them up?
You needn't look any farther than our government to get all the examples you could ever imagine!  :D

You can thank the animal rights groups for $8 tungsten fishing sinkers.  Several years back some of these anti-hunting/anti-fishing groups got together and came up with this story that lead bird shot and lead fishing sinkers were devastating the environment and killing all manor of wildlife.  Of course it was nothing more than a ploy to stop fishing and hunting and their claims have never really been proven scientifically that I am aware of.   However,  the sporting industry had to do something to counter this attack, and also use the opportunity to make an extra buck off of us, so we have $8 Tungsten fishing weights and $40 boxes of Tungsten shot shells.

Correct!
Bet their are more birds crippled with tungsten shot than were killed by the lasting effects of lead. That $8.00 weight must be a collector item
i can buy them for about $.50-$.75 for 1 oz last time i checked ;D

Not sure if it was animal rights people, but around here, if I put decoys out in a corn field for ducks or geese, I have to use steel or tungsten shot. If I'm walking the same field for rabbit, pheasant or dove, I can use lead. Someone explain that to me. gypsyman

Let me try.
Years ago some animal rights group decided that lead used for water fowel
hunting was getting in the water, the these water fowel were eating it
and dying. If ducks or geese are involved they will eat lead shot, quail, pheasants and turkeys won't. ::) ;D

I can understand it in a marsh or over water, but in a corn field that gets plowed or turned over? Just doesn't make much sense to me. gypsyman
