Scope for new Savage 220F
« on: January 05, 2010, 02:30:09 AM »
I just bought a new  20 ga. Savage 220F slug gun and need to pick a scope for it.  I have narrowed it down to the Nikon monarch 2.5-10x42 or the Bushnell 4200 3-9x40.  On ebay the Bushnell is about $80 cheaper, so that is a factor to consider.  Has anyone had experience with both of these scope?  I have one of the Nikons on a centerfire rifle and like it, but have Never had the Bushnell 4200.

I have a nikon monarch gold which is the same thing only with a 30 mm tube.  They have the same glass.  The glass is very good.  I would definately take the nikon over the bushnell.  Keep your eye on ebay for a little while if you can stand it.  I have seen those nikons go for around $260 NIB on ebay if you are willing to wait.  You definately should not pay over $300 for one.  You be hard pressed to find a comprable scope in that price range.

I just purchased a Mueller extended eye relief 3-9x40 for use on a 12ga./.243 combo gun.  I really liked the 4 inch eye relief for when using the shotgun and for the price I could not pass it up.  Here is a like to the Nueller site http://www.muelleroptics.com/products/MU3940EER.html
