What is the general consensus of a 1911 in 10mm??  What are the plus and minus?

No minus or plus--good round.
It is just another way.
I prefer several others over the 10mm.
Prefrence may be a better way of understanding the subject.
What is the purpose? Some would hold that the 10mm be preferred for larger animals and wood carry.
For humans, it certainly doesn't hold an edge over .45

After you hear it you may decide you really didn't need it!

My opinion is that anything my 45 wont stop, needs to be shot with a rifle!

It may sound weird but its a plan and everybody needs a plan.

Pros--10mm has better penetration, flatter trajectory (as if that even matters in a handgun), higher capacity, higher energy level.

Cons--10mm ammo is not as common, more recoil/blast.

Oh, and as for consensus, I have a Para Ordnance P16-40 that I modded to 10mm and I LOVE it!  The most power available in a semiauto handgun.

like a lot of calibers..it was trying to do something already done. to each his own it works but is no real advantage over .45
