Bullet Report
« on: October 28, 2003, 02:53:29 PM »
Shot a small forked horn blacktail buck today.  Quartering away the bullet entered between the last two ribs on the right side and ended up under the hide in front of the opposite shoulder.  The deer went about 20 yards.
The distance of the shot was not over 100 yards.

The bullet was a 150 grain Nosler ballistic tip out of a 7x57.  The recovered bullet (or what remained of it) weighed 84.4 grains.
If I can make it go bang it can't be that hard to do.

Reloader, What rifle were you using?  And if you dont mind, what was your load?  If you look up in the "Bolt action" forums you will see a very good friend of mine (Big Tom) just ordered a 7x57 in a Ruger #1 and is looking for good loads.  Sounds like your fits the bill.

Load for 7x57

I'm shooting a Ruger 77.

My load data is:

150 grain Nosler Ballistic Tip
49.0 H4350
CCI 200 Primer
RP Brass

My overall length for this load is 3.125".

This is not the most accurate of my rifles and normally groups these at around 1.5" center to center for three shots.

I've also been using Hornady 139 grain spt with this rifle.
If I can make it go bang it can't be that hard to do.
