Can't make this stuff up. Anti-gun senator R.C.Soles,N.C., shot an intruder Sunday night in his home. Another one of those, you can't have a gun, but I can hypacrite politicians. You fellas over there need to vote this liar out!  gypsyman

Soles is a state senator from NC.   the shooting occurred last August and Soles stated he is not runnign for reelection due to possible criminal charges against him.   The article below was printed on 12/30/09 in AP.

RALEIGH, N.C. — North Carolina's longest-serving state senator won't seek re-election next year as he faces possible criminal charges over a shooting at his home in August.

Sen. R.C. Soles said in a statement Wednesday he won't seek a 22nd consecutive term. He was first elected to the General Assembly in 1968, more than four decades ago.

State prosecutors announced this month they plan to seek an assault charge against the 75-year-old after a grand jury found probable cause he acted criminally when he shot a former law client.

Soles made no reference to the case in his statement. Authorities said he shot Kyle Blackburn when Blackburn and another man tried to kick in the door of Soles' home. Blackburn was not badly hurt.

What kind of 'clients' does a senator have?  This original story was printed in August 24 2009, and then edited later to remove the anti gun information. It's nice when the media has your back.

I don't know.  If they were trying to kick his door in I'd say he has (moral) right to defend himself.  Don't know if NC has castle doctrine or not (or how it's worded), but the only thing I can think of is that sometimes it's worded such that they have to actually be in your home for it to apply. As they say though, if you really feel your life is in danger then better to be tried by twelve than carried by six.

His political views aside, it sounds like he was in the right.  Heck maybe this event would have changed his mind on the issue.  Doesn't matter much now though since he's not seeking reelection anyways.

Then again, I'm sure there's some more details to this story that we haven't heard yet too.

No surprise. Carl Rowen one of the worst anti gun nationally syndicated journalist/author shot a high school kid in his swimming pool. Carl and his wife came home late from a night out to find a bunch of high school kids swinning in thier pool. Carl was mad and pulled out his 9mm pistol and shot one of the boys. He was a nationally-syndicated op-ed columnist for the Washington Post and the Chicago Sun-Times. The Liberals cut him all kinds of slack on the issue. I can't remember a single article or news cast at the time condeming his complete hypocricy. No so called main stream journalist went after him on this issue.

That reminds me of a funny quote from the comedy move "Just Like Heaven".  Long story, but Elizabeth is a "ghost" of a woman in a coma who visits David.  David is stealing her body from the hospital to prevent them from pulling the plug on her, and he gets his friend Jack to help (but doesn't tell him what they're doing before they get there):
