On the news this mourning showed a woman on the side of the road, had
run out of gas, said it was just to cold to stop and pump gas (how stupid
is that)

KC Metro has been hanging around 0F for a week or so. Plenty of snow to keep the schools closed. Wind-chill is south of -10F. So far power, water and natural gas are doing fine, no outages, but we live in a new development where all the wires are underground, not like in Michigan, where power was all above ground and every storm we had to prepare for days of no power when the trees loaded with snow came a tumbulin' down.

I tightened up three doors to the outside about a month ago, and it paid off in spades regarding electric bills (furnace blower going on way less every day and night - took the electric bill from $100 to $30/mo.) It'll be interesting to see the next bill.

Won't get warm till middle of next week, but don't know how long that will last. Worst weather in 20 years, and have tons of snow now to followup our tons of rain during the year. Plenty of moisture for this years crops.

All of YA'll are talking about us southern folk not being able to
take the cold... Wait till this summer when it gets a little warm
up north, say about 95 + and then it will be our turn to wonder what all the fuss
is about up there.... 8)

If the cloud cover holds tonight we won't get down to the -25 they were predicting. My biggest concern is next spring when all of this white stuff turns liquid and has to go somewhere, hopefully not into my basement. I'll take a slow thaw.
Glad I don't drink orange juice, could get a bit spendy. You guys hang in there.

If it's a deep freeze in the south, it's colder than that in the north. In fact the outside temp now is much colder than the inside of my chest freezer.

I'm not ashamed to say I dont do well in this cold. I dont live up north for a reason, I only like ice in my Tea.

Ive broken ice up north in the winter on the Rivers, and seen the winter wonderland there as well, and Dont miss it!

Here's one to think about: I was walking outside with a softdrink containing ice today and in 75 yards of walking the drink froze over.

It's 15 here in my part of Bama this morning. At least last night the wind abated enough that there is frost this morning. The snow that fell the other day is still here as it's been too cold for it to melt tho the wind has taken some of it away.

You guys up north are used to it and expect it and prepare for it down here we don't. Our humidity stays high year round which makes the cold feel a LOT colder than it really is. A dry cold of zero is not really as uncomfortable as our damp cold as atested to by many a northerner who's frozen his butt off hunting down here in January. You guys beat us by far on how far that thermometer drops and in how much snow you pile up but at least you know it's coming each winter so have years to prepare for it. We don't expect this and it hits so seldom it's not economically feasible to prepare for it.

I believe this is the longest drawn out cold spell we've had in Bama since the '40s to put it in perspective for you. It's been a bit colder at times since but not this cold for this long. I'm approaching 65 in March and in my life time this is the longest protracted cold spell of them. No matter where ya live to say that means it's mighty cold for folks who live there.

Oooh, that 15 degrees in Alabama is a killer! I've never been so cold as one day in Arkansas like that. The combination of the low temps and the high humidity made it bone chilling. You get cold fast and you stay cold for a long time.

We're in our 26th month of winter here in Minnesota. It started about November 2007. "Summer" has just been windy and unpleasant. Hardly went fishing. Bad conditions at the range. I got up some July mornings to see the temp at 37 or 42. I just went back to bed.

Yep Brother its cold down here! It may get to 32 for a high today with the sun shining. I'm gonna go practice my cold weather shooting to be ready in case someone from Alaska invites me up for a hunt or sumpin!

I think we will make it IG but this global warming is tough on us old folks. Going to BC today to check on Mom's house.

As a transplant to Mn. from the deep south of ...central Il. I can report that you will acclimate to cold temps. When it gets back up to normal you'll leave the coat at home! 10 degrees wed evening and found myself out fueling and pretripping the truck in shirt sleeves! It is truely amazing what the body can get used to.

I will admit that 95 degrees is horrible, I can honestly say that I prefer 15 degrees to 95 degrees. The ordinary person could not stand to see me (un)dressed enough for comfort. The misses has been hardened to it over the years and still has to brace herself to it!

Last winter wind chills hit -58 at some of the rigs in North Dakota  it's funny but if you spend enough time at those temps Zero starts to feel good.

Got up this morning to frozen pipes.  Waited until it warmed up  to over 20 by my outside thermometer to get started.  Funny how 25 degrees was exceptionally cold a couple weeks ago, but actually don't feel so bad now that we've had single didgits.  So I spent a while laying in a puddle of nice cold water under the house, only had to replace about 20' of pipe and ftgs.  Thank goodness for CPVC!  Got them insulated this time.

Better watch those cliches!  My grandchildren were here Christmas, and my youngest, (7), heard me say it was colder than a witches' bosom in a brass bra.  Apparently his mama doesn't think it's appropriate for him to tell the preacher that.......
