Thompson Center Model 83 Aristocrat
« on: January 06, 2010, 03:07:34 PM »
What can anyone tell me about this rifle? I have an opportunity to purchase one in .222 Remington with single set triggers. What years was it made and in what other calibers? What might the value be of one in very good condition? I appreciate any information.

Someone else will know more but I believe the aristocrat had double set triggers and maybe nicer wood? Single trigger was called the hunter. Been wrong before. My dad has an aristocrat in 270. Nice accurate, light weight rifle.

The 83 aristocrat had double set triggers and also had a very high luster blueing on all parts, stock was checkered and had a snapon forend, I know they were made untill 87 maybe longer. In 87 Tc came out with the TCR 87 which did not have a checkered stock and had a beaver tail type forend that had a screw to loosen before you could unsnap forend ,was blued but not high luster. cal. listed were 223-22-250-243-270-30-06 and 7mm rem mag. all barrels stocks will interchange. They also made an 87 stamped mag action. As for price I have seen them for as little as 450.00 on up depending on condition with the going price in my area at around 800.00 with no exrra barrels. you will need to make sure that it has scope mount and rings as they are a little hard to find. extra barrels range from 250.00 to 350.00. I have an 87 in 223 which I really like and for some reason you do not feel the recoil as much in heavier cal. There is one listed now with several barrels and scope in hard case on contender forum and at a fair price. I see actions on gun broker with stock for 600.00.

Weaver still makes/sells the correct #405 (48105) one-piece  scope base for TCR's, with two sets of side-by-side screws/holes - about $7, IIRC
