Charlotte Iserbyt is the consummate whistleblower! Iserbyt served as Senior Policy Advisor in the Office of Educational Research and Improvement (OERI), U.S. Department of Education, during the first Reagan Administration, where she first blew the whistle on a major technology initiative which would control curriculum in America's classrooms. Iserbyt is a former school board director in Camden, Maine and was co-founder and research analyst of Guardians of Education for Maine (GEM) from 1978 to 2000. She has also served in the American Red Cross on Guam and Japan during the Korean War, and in the United States Foreign Service in Belgium and in the Republic of South Africa. Iserbyt is a speaker and writer, best known for her 1985 booklet Back to Basics Reform or OBE: Skinnerian International Curriculum and her 1989 pamphlet Soviets in the Classroom: America's Latest Education Fad which  covered the details of the U.S.-Soviet and Carnegie-Soviet Education Agreements which remain in effect to this day. She is a freelance writer and has had articles published in Human Events, The Washington Times, The Bangor Daily News, and included in the record of Congressional hearings.

Just confirms what I and many others have suspected all along. The government run school system is geared to turn all our kids into obedient little non thinking mush heads.  That is why it is important to be involved with your kids education. 

If it were financially possible I would send my daughter to a private Christian school, but it is not at this time so it is sometimes necessary to de-program her at home. It has not been a big issue (yet) with my kid because she has already come to the conclusion that her teachers are fallible (putting it nicely).   She has been taught to be respectful but to not follow them blindly and to seek more information from outside sources if something he teachers are spewing does not sound quite right.

The dumbing down of America began in earnest about 40 years ago.  It is probably too late to reverse the trend today.  Much more than the schools  are to blame.  For a couple of decades the news media has failed to cover anything of substance.  The media would rather hold the interest of its listeners with long running sensational stories about Tiger Woods, Michael Jackson and the Christmas day bomber.  For those who are not into long stories there are the 30 second sound bites. 

Political pukes want dumb constituents.  They do not want folks who have the ability go do some research and find out who they are taking money from or how they voted.  Shills like Hannity, Limbaugh and Huffington want devoted dumb listeners who will not question their far out rhetoric. 

No one noticed that Medal of Honor recipient Army Col Lewis Millett died recently.  Col Millett lead the last company sized bayonet charge in military history in Korea.  The Tiger Woods extravaganza eclipsed any notice of the death of this outstanding military hero.

We don't have to allow the media to control us. It is not too late to stop the dumbing down of America. Discussing world event with our children, keeping our expectations of their educational accomplishments high. Reviewing homework with them. Demanding Honors Course Curriculum in all schools, to give another something for kids to aspire to achieve. Holding teachers and school boards to a higher standard. Attending PTA and raising questions, organizing other concerned parents into a force to be reckoned with.

This is but one of the reasons my daughter is home schooling.  Too little too late I fear.  I work with younger men, who have never read our constitution, or the declaration of independence.  When I took them a copy, they were astonished, and asked where I got this, as they had never seen it in it's entirety.  They  thought the small excerpts they had been told was the entirety.

We have for the most part, lost a generation.  Can we awaken  them in time?

    I listened to all the videos. I have been aware of most of this for a long time. When I attempt to discuss any of this with most people they look at me with the "Poor Charlie Look". I think it is too much for them to comprehend. It sort of looks like the dumbing down is working.
Fortunately a few do understand the importance of what is going on and will try to vote out as many as possible to regain control.

I guess it would have been too much trouble for you to have told a bit what you were alluding to. And no, I don't tie up the phone lines any longer than need be. I work on a Reservation, and many don't have constant access to internet and had barely finished high school. When I talk about things that are happening politically, and what I am concerned about, most of those I work with are ALL EARS. They ask me tons of questions, specifics about Our Constitution. They are eager to learn. We need to be eager to teach. They are all in the 30-40 yr old range. We need to seize the opportunity whenever it arises. But that also means we need to develop the rapport in the first place.

I appreciate the thread & in fact have known about this "dumbing down" situation long before I joined GBO. It is one of the fundamental reasons that our Gov. has been able to skirt the Constitution the way they have, if kids (& adults) know nothing about it, then they don't know when we deviate from it. And yes, even the basics are watered down, I looked at a Math book that belonged to my Aunt which was 6th grade level at the time & I can tell you that no 6th grader that I know could understand all of that now & yes we have high school grads that can't read today.

Preaching to the choir. I won't listen/watch all the video's, she reminds me of Rush Limbaugh. I agree with alot of what he says. But, he's got a 1/2 hour to 45 minute program, and spreads it out over 3 hours. I don't want to hear about her trip to Granada,big house in Maine, etc. I've got friends just like this.
