I do not understand.
If Norse mythology is not your religion they why?
If for what reasons you think you want to then you will need a book on Norse Mythology available in the local Library.
But from what I know you will need a little wooden boat it needs to be big enough to hold a fire large enough to consume the rat and not sink before, where you will have Chared rat floating ashore.
I can not continue I am picturing a rat in a viking helmet with a tiny sword and sheild and little casks of mead being set adrift at sunset and the rain of flaming arrows to ignite it and having a Disney version of Beowolf in my head where the monster is a wolf and the towns people are rats.
But be carefull you may be charged with:
Arson
Cruelty to animals (how do the police know the Rat was dead before you set him/ her on fire)

Just burry the rat in the back yard in a shoe box or take it to the Vet and have her creamated and make a nice wooden box to keep it in.

;D Reminds me of one of the guinea(sp) pigs my wife had at her preschool. It was obviously in bad shape so she put it in a dog food sack so she didn't have to see the results and watched me shoot it with a load of #4's...the things I do...

I had a crappy docket this afternoon and wasn't in a good mood.  3 or 4 times I just took a second to think about this post and it brought a chuckle and a new outlook each time.

You need a river or lake, even a pond will do for a small critter.  You will need to create a raft or other craft that you can pile with combustable woods like kindling - fatwood comes to mind, or pine.  The craft should have a sail mounted forward of the fire wood so the wind can take the craft and critter as they are both consumed by fire.  You could even create a raft type thing from fatwood so the entire thing is consumed.

It will also be necessary to prepare the body so it does not float back to the surface, as in India in the Ganges, after the craft goes under - this is rarely spoken to in Norse mythology as most Kings who were treated to this process had already suffered fatal sword/stab wounds all over but specifically to the abdomen in combat, and/or had their entrails read by the tribal medicine man, or whoever, after being sacrificed in hopes of enhancing crop harvests.

Also, most of those men were decked out, so to speak, in all their battle gear which weighed a lot and would probably drag them right to the bottom without the benefit of abdominal eviseration.  You could always, ummmm, 'secure' your soon to be departed beloved pet to something less bouyant that you pile the wood around so that as the fire consumes both craft and critter the less bouyant object slides quickly to the bottom..............

Now understand, please, that this didn't work for us in Vietnam when members of the 5th SF Group sank a double agent into Haipong (??) harbor but that's only on accounta the dang seals went in and recovered partial remains, unrecognizable except for a scar on the guy's toe according to the widow (right), which led more to embarrassment than convictions in court martials.  After that we just fed'm to the hogs.........

So this process should work for you unless there are grieving family members who would want to make certain the rat passed of natural causes and was not 'helped along' before his time...................... HTH.

Get real man, a rat?

Now now, let's be a little more understanding...  ::)  Rats make fine pets... I can understand how Jamal got attached to his.  But take it from me, if you're thinking about getting one for a pet, get a female.  Keep a boy rat for a while and you will understand were the term "I smell a rat" came from!  Don't ask me how I know...  ;D

Sides, you got to remember Jamal lives in the projects... rats are more common then dogs... and they don't bark at the neighborhood drug dealers...  :P

Some day, even though I sold my place in Clearwater Beach, I'm gonna jump on my bike and head down to Tarpon Springs.  I'll visit with Jamal, tour some of the locations where his adventures took place,  take pictures and prove, once and for all, that he DOES exist!  Jamal is for real!  He is NOT an internet personna!   ;D

Jamal, I suspect that your pet died on the 7th and you were still considering burial options on the 11th. I hope you have that critter iced down or at least downwind of the neighboorhood?

My rat is now gone. She was really sick and i had to break her neck and put her down. I had to go to work so i bury her in a wild life refuge that was close to were i live. I was singing the song Ich hatte einen Kameraden as i put her in the ground. That song was a song she like.  It goes

I Had a Comrade

In battle he was my comrade,
 None better I have had.
The drum called us to fight,
 He always on my right,
In step, through good and bad.

A bullet it flew towards us,
For him or meant for me?
His life from mine it tore,
At my feet a piece of gore,
As if a part of me.

His hand reached up to hold mine.
 I must re-load my gun.
"My friend, I cannot ease your pain,
In life eternal we'll meet again,
And walk once more as one."

You need a boat, can be made of stone (you can do this on the land).
Need a slave or two to sacrifice.
Need some valuable items like gold-handled swords and such. 'Grave Goods'. You've got swords.
You need some big rocks for a monument. (see Stonehenge).
Need a 'thrall girl'.  Read the article, OK?
And, of course, funeral Ale.

Man, those Viking funerals seem like a real good time!
