Two men have been given jail time and fined for using illegal gill nets to catch fish on Lake Michigan's Big Bay de Noc.

Daryl John Tatrow of Garden and Kerry Todd Johnson of Cooks were sentenced Monday in Delta County District Court.

They were convicted after their arrest in November, when officers with the Michigan Department of Natural Resources seized 1,100 pounds of fish and 1,200 feet of gill net.

The Daily Press of Escanaba says 48-year-old Tatrow was ordered to spend 180 days in jail, while 27-year-old Johnson got 30 days.

They were ordered to pay fines, costs and restitution totaling more than $7,000 and had their fishing licenses suspended for three years.
