Championship Game (Football GB)
« on: January 07, 2010, 07:06:43 AM »
Well today is the day.  The Alabama Crimson Tide will meet the Texas Long Horns in Pasadena for a try at the National Championship Title.  I see the Tide coming out ahead 27-17!  :)  Now as a Bama gal myself I can't wait for the game!  ROLL TIDE ROLL!!!!

Not real sure who I'll be cheering for.
I find it hard to cheer for them longhorns anyday. ;)
But I do enjoy me some college football. ;D

I understand you Texas folks are loyal, but it will be a very long night if the same team that squeeked it out vs. Nebraska shows up. I'm betting the Crimson Tide will take this one anyway.
It's somewhat anti-climactic for me after watching our Hawks dismantle that "powerful" Georgia Tech running game.

Yeah, me too HMU, after watching the Badgers stuff 430 yards of total offense down the throats of the Miami Hurricanes to win the Champs Bowl. ;D Just had to get that in there about my team, and you sort of gave me a good opportunity. :D Thank you my Big Ten friend. ;)

I'm not a fan of either team, but I'm picking Bama to win. I think they were playing their best at the end of the season.

Skunk, the Big Ten has had a very good showing in bowl games this year. I think it has surprised a lot of people.

DDZ,

I was happy with the Big Ten this year in the Bowls. And if you remember, in another thread, you picked Wisconsin to win the Champs Sports Bowl and you liked the Ohio State against the Ducks. ;)

Just curious, who are you picking for the wild card playoffs in the NFL this weekend? Of course, I'm mostly interested in the match up between Green Bay and Arizona for the second straight week. Last week's game was hardly notable since Arizona benched most of their starters while GB played most of theirs.

Even longer game if the same alabama team shows up that had to block a field goal to win one of its games!

That's why they play them. I hope they both bring their "A" game so it lives up to the billing.

You bet, the Big Ten looked pretty impressive, not sure why MN couldn't hold up their end of the deal vs. the crappy 'Clones.

Skunk

I'm picking the Packers over Ari. just because the Packers have a better defense.
How about Philly over Dallas. Never did like the Cowboys.
New England over Baltimore. Got to go with one of the best QB's in the game.
Jets over Cincy. The Jets have allowed the least points scored against them, out of all teams.

Don't bet on my picks. I could be wrong on every game.

I think those are pretty fair picks DDZ. Since you went out on a limb, I'll follow your lead and make my picks, although it scares me to make a pick on the Packer/Cardinal game because I'm afraid I'll jinx the Packers. :D

1. Packers over Cardinals. Although GB played their starters last week, Coach McCarthy said he had enough plays and different game plans to be able to show Arizona an entirely different team this week. Plus, I think the Packers are flat out a more hungry team than Arizona this year.

2. Cowboys over Eagles. I'm not a Cowgirls fan either, but jeez, I think I like the Eagles even less. ;) Cowgirls just have too many weapons and a huge offensive line. Plus, Phony Homo and the Cowpies are playing their best football of the season in December/January of all times. :D But I'd really like to see the Eagles win this game because if they and Green Bay both win, the Packers go to Murderappolis and play the Queens. That's like a home game for Green Bay and the Packers are an entirely different team than the one that got beaten by the Queens two times this year.

3. Patriots over Ravens. Big time! New England is coming alive and they are going to play like a super bowl team in the playoffs. They might just be the AFC's representative in the Super Bowl.

4. Bengals over Jets. If nothing else, I'm thinking the Bengals because of home field advantage.

So there you have it. Skunk the Greek has made his predictions. ;D

I think Saban had the government send this snow so schools and businesses would close in time for everyone to see the game!  J/k, but in all seriousness, yes guys it is snowing in Bama today...thankfully  not enough to interrupt the power so that I may still watch the game!  ROLL TIDE ROLL!

Agreed, Oldshooter. The Plowboys are hot going into the playoffs. If they play like they did against Da Taints (week 16) or the Beagles last week, it's going to be an old fasion, Texas Style BBQ (heavy on the mesquite) at Cowpie Stadium. :'( ;D

Well Colt McCoy is hurt in the first set of offensive downs. So maybe The tide can beat the second string
blind freshman QB. I aint mad cause Colt aint playing, I'm a little PO'd that all Texas has is this "squinting" freshman. I'm guessing he wont complete a pass! @#$##@#!#$%#R#T$&$T**Y%$

Looks to me like Colt is out, and The horns only had a slight chance with him in the game. Now it's a run away for the Tide. I like them both, but Bama is the better team this year.

Wow! You have to give Texas credit for not giving up. That freshman quarterback, after he got the kinks out, played one Heck! of a game.

Funny, I watched both Colt McCoy and McElroy grow up. I attended several of their high school games.  Colt was always considered to be a small kid from a small school (Tuscola, TX) that was too slow for collage football.  Elroy was somewhat larger, but really, in my opinion, not as talented of a football player as Colt.  Perhaps the best QB of this era is Mississippi’s Jevan Sneed, all Texas products.

The entire completion of the game changed after Colt went down, without the engineer the train couldn’t stay on track. It would have been interesting to see how things might have turned out with an experienced QB rather than a freshman that had only taken 6 snaps in a collage game before being thrown to the wolves.

Regardless, it was still a fairly good game, and had it not been for the errors of an inexperienced QB it may have been a little closer.  I pray that Colt’s injury is not serious enough to prevent what looks like a promising professional career, and good luck to Sneed who has forfeited his four year of collage for a shot at the NFL.

Congratulations go out to Bama!  :'( :'( :'(

I am Texas fan ! I was dissapointed that Colt was hurt, him staying in could have made a difference. Buy he got knocked out, I too hope he is not seriously hurt! I am sure he was dissappointed as well.

I am more than a little shocked that there was no back up for him that had more experience, obviously no QB controversy there. Seems short sighted to me for there not to have been someone with a little more experience. I guess thats what running up the score for BCS points will get you!

Cudos to Alabama! they knocked Colt out then almost knocked out gilbert! and played tough football. The SEC may be the best group on the block. They have a good bowl record and May be where its at right now!

I expect McElroy did not expect to be on his ass as much as he was though!  ;)
