Trying to remove scope mount
« on: January 08, 2010, 06:58:52 AM »
I'm trying to remove the factory scope mount, but the mount bolts are too tight.  Do I need to heat them first?  If so, with what? I don't have a heat gun or a torch here.

See BASE SCREW REMOVAL HELP in the.......you guessed it.....FAQS!!  ::)

Tim

You know, that damn FAQ is so big, it's like going to the library.  Lot's of info.  I figured it out myself, though.  It goes like this:

I figured it out.  First, you strip all three allen heads.  Then you get pissed and lay the mount across a gas burner.  Then you go dig through your tool box and find the right size torx head.  Then you hammer it in to the stripped allen head.  Then you apply great force to the torx head with a crescent wrench.

It's easy if you follow the instructions.

The FAQs page is searchable using ctrl f, works every time I have to find stuff in there, I use it several times every day.

Tim, Maybe you can put his way in the FAQs as an alternate way of base removal. ;D

Feel for you dross, These little guns can be stressful at times.
I take it you are not the one who put them screws in.

Heat is the key to removing thread locked screws, there are several methods of applying heat already listed in the FAQs thread, feel free to add to that thread.  ;)

Don't get me wrong, I appreciate all the info in the FAQ thread, just a little irritated right now - cause inanimate objects respond well to that.

Rule 1 - Don't get in a hurry.

WassZupp Dog! I've tried that ctrl thingy several times and don't think it ever worked for me. Not sure, but it might have once ??? I have an old computer with slow dial up and figured that may have something to do with it. I'm still gettin used to colored TV ;D Sounds nifty if it worked. I'll try it again sometime. ;)

I believe it is the Dewey Decimal System for the FAQs  Good Luck!

I tried it again and it worked. A search box should appear and you type in what you are looking for and it highlights it and takes you there. You may have to word it right.

Use a good screwdriver. Those hex key sets bend. Gunsmith grade does not.

Best idea is to toss the soft POS H&R screws and buy the T10 torx head screws from Brownells that are shown in the FAQs.  ;)

To use the ctrl f, hold down the ctrl key and hit f, as Mike said, a search box will display, type in a word and hit enter or next, it works in Firefox and IE, search box displays in different places tho, it works on any web page.
