reloading problem
« on: October 29, 2003, 12:25:14 PM »
I have reloaded several boxes of .300 win mag without any problems, but the last two boxes had a few rounds that I couldn't chamber fully.  I couldn't get my bolt handle to close on them.  I tried seating the bullets deeper, but that didn't help.  I miced my cases and the ones that worked were 2.617, the ones that didn't were 2.623. I tried trimming the cases a little and they seemed to work. However, I just sized some cases and before I trimmed them I tried them in the chamber.  They worked fine. When I miced them they were 2.633.  Am I missing something here?  I readjusted my sizing die,  I'm not sure if that would cause this problem.  If anyone has any suggestions please let me know.....
Thanks

It could be that the empty cases your putting in the chamber are going because there is no bullet to hold the neck diameter to a precise size. What I mean is that it could be trying to put a little "crimp on the case and you don't realize it. with a bullet installed the case neck can't "crimp at the chamber end and won't allow it to fully insert in the chamber. Just something to consider.  KN
