I fell in love with the style of the "Mean Streak" but it is a big heavy bike. Almost 700 lbs. Maybe someday I'll live again where I have lots of open road.

I do like the mid size bikes for their handling and light weight. The only thing I didn't like about the honda 750CBC that I rode in new mexico was the seat. Now my Vulcan has a real comfortable seat.  ;D

I have finally decided that if I had to choose I would hunt and say I would not ride. I would then ride anyway since I pretty much don't fall into being told what I can and can't do. Just me sorry.
Deer hunting is mostly fun then you shoot one and it turns to work.

deernhog, Nobody said you had to commit to give up anything. My question was and exercise in self reflection.  ;D A search for core values that are hidden deep within all of us and most of the time we just do what we want and never think about such things.

I keep it simple with out all this soul searching and hidden core values. Simply be who you are, people can already tell if your faking it anyway.

I like others here, grew up hunting. Pure passion that drives a man to leave his warm home and understanding wife to enjoy his lifes blood, day or night. On the other hand I waited 25yrs. before I could afford the scoot I wanted. Always putting family first, then one day my wife says "if you want that bike(98 Rd.King) buy it, you want find a better deal". I don't know if its the wait, the fact that she wanted me to have it, the fact I wanted it so bad, or the fact I finally have one but I really like my bike.It would take some deep searching and I'm not sure right now.

A year ago, I'd have picked hunting hands down but as I've logged more miles and made a couple road trips, riding has become more important to me and is a larger part of my daily life than hunting is.  I'd have to say I'd pick riding.  Now if I had to choose between riding and trapping, well that would be harder.  And riding and horses, well the horses would win in a land slide.

Now I'm jealous....never even been onna bike, none of my friends own or have ever owned one.  Had a uncle with a chopper in the late 60's but...that went by the wayside.  Had a couple of distant reletives that rode...both members of a famous biker club (1%ers)...both had major accidents before I was old enough to drive (I'm 51) both have artif. limbs as a result....

Still have a nagg'n feeling that I'd like to try it......

Been thinking about this forum. Not a lot of activity but there are a few faithfull. The forum dosen't seam real friendly to hunters that ride.  ::)

Regards,

Go to legitimate biker forums and see how much activity you see in their hunting sub-forums. You'll see a pattern develop. Besides, it's not this sub-forum that's not biker friendly, but some of the few that use it. Only takes a coupla "my way is the only way" or " I'm the real biker here and the rest of you wimps are posers" to drive the rest away.

If you had to choose between riding or hunting for the rest of your life, which one would you pick?

I have been hunting and riding most of my life. Having to choose between one or the other would be like cutting off one of my hands. Since I would not have to give up recreational shooting to comply with the above statement and since my wife of many years enjoys the seat behind me so much, I guess it's hunting that would have to go. At my age I don't really "hunt" that much anymore...........I basically go to the woods with my sons and observe them hunting. The pleasure I get from that has given me memories, pride and excitement as much if not more than the days when I hunted alone.
"where'd you get the gun....son?"

Seems that the older we get and (lucky  to have arrived) the more we realize what we were huntin and fishin for.  It's not the chase or the kill, and now when I respond to the Question?  Well what did you get.
My answer is nost often,  "I got back".

I grew up hunting still have my first shotgun, (we were fortunate that dad could afford to purchase shotguns for my brother and myself) that been said I ride every day that I can, being from the southern teir of new york means I ride if there is no snow on the road. We have a trailer and ride to get stores, grocerices, hardware etc.  This provides us the joy of riding and getting basic travels of life done.(plus saving on gas 2 4 wheel drives) Since I have been 14 I have only missed one huntung season (knee replacement). I use hunting to get one with nature and put food on the table. I can say the same with the bike. There are  a lot of similaries between the two so why would one have to classify one self

These are some great posts.I too never thought of which cat.I would fall into.I started hunting when i was 10 or so and riding shortly after that.I am 49 now.I truly love the outdoors and anything associated with it.I truly enjoy shooting my longbows year round and when riding season comes I try to juggle them both, but do feel guilty when I am doing one and wanting to do the other.I have been on many 3d ranges and hear the rumble of the bikes and wish I was on mine.Like Pastor had mentioned i thank god everyday that I have the opportunity to enjoy both or should i say all.Hunting feeds my family as well and is very important in my life but God always comes first,at least being a new Christian I working harder everyday to make that way.God bless all of ya'll.I am glad to be here to share my love for the sports with ya.......

One of my excoworkers took out a doe running 65, killed the deer and only wobbled the bike. He was running 35 in town and hit a half grown coon. Went down and lost some hide. The coon did not have a happy ending either.  Armadillos and feral hogs worry me a lot around here in Ok.

A full growed Rattler almost  tossed me and a full growed Dresser on a high way in West Texas one hot summer day. I thought I could run over him and ruin his day. hit him behind the head with the front tire and woooo doggie, it was on! Watch them critters for sure.

A full grown rattler can be like running over a 4" post if you hit him in the middle. :o
