Charter Arms 73540 Target Mag Pug .357
« on: January 09, 2010, 02:30:16 PM »
Anyone have any experience with the 4" adjustable sighted .357 73540 Target Mag Pug ? I have heard good & bad reports on Charter arms. It weights close to the Ruger SP101 and has adjustable sight & a 4' Barrel. I like Rugers and Tarus, but want a little more ump than my Single-Six to carry around the farm. I need the accuracy to engage relatively small target at reasonable range. I like the sound of the new 327, and would be my 2nd choice. I already have a lot of .38 & .357 ammo and components.

I've had a S&W J frame in 32 H&R mag for about 20-25 years now and it's one of my favorite tramping around the farm guns.
Haven't made the jump to the 327 mag yet, been waiting on reports from others and the ammo to catch up.

The little 32 H&R mag is a nice round though.
I wouldn't feel under gunned with it most of the time.
Of course feral dogs are about the biggest critter I run into down on the farm. ;D

Other than 2 legged polecats the biggest here would be stray or feral dogs. Sadly we have lost more chickens to neighbor's dogs than coyotes! Yes if I see them going after my chickens or ponies I would shoot them. I have shot 'coons, 'possums, and feral cats in my barn. Important safety tip wear hearing protectors when touching off a .22 mag in a metal barn! I try to use the 10/22 in side the barn.

My wife has a 3" Ruger SP101 that's so accurate it's scary. It's heavy enough to handle .357 loads quite well, and a real joy with .38s. Sorry, I've had no experience with the Charter Arms product. But my wife use to hit drop targets at 40 yards. That'll handle yotes at a reasonable range and still be easy to carry.

I had a pair of the old CA 44 Spl's 25ish years ago and they held up pretty well to my 'soft' loads. They were quite the handful with factory duplicates though, and handy to carry. They must have been smaller/lighter than what you are looking at?
After having gone through quite a bunch of calibers IMHO, if you need more than the .32Mag get a .38Spl or .357Mag. I think the .327 is way overpriced for the performance, and what do they compare it to? Just get that and have more for less.
