Yes, I read that earlier today & it (300 Mags) are good rounds for most anything in North America, African Plains game & many other needs. It is perfectly reasonable that trophy hunters want to be ready for not only close shots but longer shots as well, within their skill level of course.

Some folks think a .300 WM is much too harsh on the shoulder.  I personally don't find that to be the case, as I compare it to my heavy .45-70 and myuzzleloader loads which generate considerably more recoil.

Although I haven't done anything with my .300 WM that I couldn't do with a .308 Win, if I knew ranges would be long my .300 WM would be the one I would go for.

I think there is something with the fit of the gun stock . My winchester 300 Wm does not really feel any more in reciol than my same 3006 with the same stock.
My father-in-laws P14 in 300 Wm is also a pussy cat to shoot . Then too these rifles are not light weight .

Seems like I read somewhere recently where the military was going to the 300 WM as the new sniper round.

already have. They select the 300 as an improved intermediate round, below the 338 and 50cal.

An old Lyman reloading manual I read back in the late 70's had a write up on the 300 Winchester mag. It said it was the closest thing on earth to a thunderbolt. I know that since then all kinds of "super duper scoot on down the road" magnums have been invented but the old 300 Win Mag will still kick some major butt.
