Best Scope to use on 14" 22 barrel?
« on: January 10, 2010, 03:55:51 AM »
New to this, any help is appriecated. What size or strength scope is best for this barrel for small game hunting?
Thanks for the input.

Just my .02cents worth a Bushnell 2x6x32 is a good scope for the money. If you look around you can probably pick one up for 100.00 to 120.00 used or about 170.00 new. However I still prefer for me at least the 2x7 Burris just because I like that scope. There more expensive at about 290.00 new if you look around. You can also find one used for less if you check out some of the classifieds. I am just picky I guess I have both these scopes and still like the Burris the best. Al
My hair is turnin White
My neck has always been Red
My collar is still Blue
Yes you can say I have always been Red White and Blue

I just bought a Bushnell Trophy 2-6 X 32 to go on a 218 Bee. I also had a Leupold 2X on a Herrett barrel. The Leupold seems easier to line my eye up with than the Bushnell, but it's been too cold here to get to the range to try them side by side.
This year I put a Bushnell Holosight on the Herrett and found it much easier to line up on a running deer compared to the Leupold. I had the Holosight on my slug gun last year, didn't like it there, but it's found a new home on the Contender. If I were to get another sight like this I'd look at a Burris Fastfire. The Bushnell uses 2 "N" batteries, it seems to be battery hungry so I carry spares with me.
I also have a 1" Millet red dot on my HS Victor. Again, until I get to the range I'll have to compare the red dot and Leupold to see what I'm going to use on this gun.
For a hunting 22 I don't see the need for anything over a 4X scope. Even though the red dot and holosights are 1X you may want to look at them for 22 ranges.

Another option to consider would be a rifle scope being as theres no recoil to deal with. All my small game getters wear them.

This 10" MGM 22LR Tender wears a 3X9 Barska compact rifle scope.

This 14" 22LR Tender wears a 3X9 Simmons rifle scope.

This 14" 17MACH2 wears a 3X9 Nikon rifle scope.

I use a Nc Star 2X7 POWER pistol scope. I've not had any problems with this scope on any low recoiling barrels. I bought mine for under $50.00.

With a low recoiling .22 any pistol scope will do, just make sure you have enough magnification. I am biased to Burris and say they are the best, but they are not cheap. I have a Swift that gave up the ghost on a .357 Herrett, was returned to the factory and now happily lives on a Custom shop 15 inch .30 Carbine.
