Nosler .224 cal 60 gr PT
« on: January 10, 2010, 06:57:57 AM »
I was wondering if anyone here has had any luck with the Nosler .224 cal 60 gr PT in a 22-250 with a 1:14" twist?

My M700 VLS shot the original one great but Nosler has changed the profile of the ogive and they shoot 4-5" patters at 100 yds.

Any load info in a 1:14 twist would be greatly appreciated.

Can't speak for 22-250 but never found a load I liked in .223.The blackhills factory load with that bullet grouped very well though.Good luck

Wow, I did not know about the change, but with my 1x8 RRA 223, it would not be an issue I guess.

No experience with that particular bullet.

My 22-250 1:14 shoots best with a near max load of H380 on 40 & 55 gr bullets (<1/4" groups), but the 63 and 70 gr bullets worked better with near starting loads of Varget (3/4-1" groups) .
The difference between people who do stuff and people who don't do stuff is that the people who do stuff do stuff.

I may have found a winner, MAX load of H 380!
I loaded 5 and shot a cloverleaf at 50 yds with 2 left for a rough sight in at 100 yds.
I have loaded up additional shells for testing and will post my results.
This little 60 gr PT is an awesome coyote bullet from any angle.

A few years ago I built a 22-250 with a 1/9 twist ER Shaw barrel for shooting the smaller deer down in the Texas hill country. I wanted to shoot the larger 70 grain TSX bullets, but I could never get them to shoot all that well. I had a box of the .224 Nosler partitions that I like in my 222mag AI  so I loaded some of them up and found a winning combination. Since then I have shot several deer with these and have yet to have a deer take a step. Heart/lung shots. Turned there insides to jelly.
Where I hunt now we have much bigger deer so I usually start my season with my 257AI and then after I get a buck I switch over to the 22-250 with the 60 grain partitions for does and spikes. Its pure poison on them if you pick your shots.
