Superb photograph & a great narrative. My first thoughts were how well they blend in (like pictures 7 & eight) and the times that I had to look just a bit for the downed yote that I called in.

My second thoughts were that if the gent is not hunting those Coyotes, or if there is no hunters in the area, they need to be yelling at those yotes or even throwing rocks or such at them when close. The Coyote after all is an opportunist and will jump on the chance to get house pets, small children, or even adults if they become relaxed in an urban or rural area.

My final thoughts are that the yellow lab is in danger. It might have won this time but the Coyote is shrewd enough to stay just ahead of a dog for a distance but then the whole pack jumps in to teach that dog a lesson if not kill it.

Why don't my pictures look like that?

All in the equipment. I recently went from a Sony Cybershot to a Nikon D40 ($125) because the lady who returned it without the box could not figure out how to take a picture with it (the counter confirmed this).
It took me about 10min to figure it out and I was getting some great pictures on the user friendly auto. The manual mode to include exposure settings and your F stop numbers are not that hard to figure out also but You need to read the manual and expeirment with the settings.

I did price a telephoto lens like our man had...around $249 so sometimes I dont know whether I should walk away or run away from photography!

That lab looked fat and out of shape.  All alone, he might become coyote dinner when that yote is out there with a few friends hiding in the high grass.

Wrong "optics" in my estimation!

I'd shoot the thing if it were around here. Our coyotes have alot more respect and fear of people. And my lab mix Oscar would go coyote hunting with me in his youth and he had no problem handling acoyote one on one. A large coyote weighs in less that 50 lbs and he is 75 lb. I have often heard of coyotes weighing 50, 60, 70 lbs. I have a certified scale and the largest of these 70 pounders came in at 46 lbs. The world record for coyote is 74 and 3/4 lb.

I couldn't get the pictures to load (slow connection), but thought the story was interesting.  That coyote should be glad it was a lab after him and not the German Shepard or a Great Pyrenees (and good luck to the pack if they "sucker in" a full grown Great Pyrenees).
