30 Years of Global Cooling Are Coming, Leading Scientist Says

December temperatures compared to average December temps recorded between 2000 and 2008. Blue points to colder than average land surface temperatures, while red indicates warmer temperatures.
From Miami to Maine, Savannah to Seattle, America is caught in an icy grip that one of the U.N.'s top global warming proponents says could mark the beginning of a mini ice age.

Oranges are freezing and millions of tropical fish are dying in Florida, and it could be just the beginning of a decades-long deep freeze, says Professor Mojib Latif, one of the world's leading climate modelers.

Latif thinks the cold snap Americans have been suffering through is only the beginning. He says we're in for 30 years of cooler temperatures -- a mini ice age, he calls it, basing his theory on an analysis of natural cycles in water temperatures in the world's oceans.

Latif, a professor at the Leibniz Institute at Germany's Kiel University and an author of the U.N.'s Intergovernmental Panel on Climate Change (IPCC) report, believes the lengthy cold weather is merely a pause -- a 30-years-long blip -- in the larger cycle of global warming, which postulates that temperatures will rise rapidly over the coming years.

At a U.N. conference in September, Latif said that changes in ocean currents known as the North Atlantic Oscillation could dominate over manmade global warming for the next few decades. Latif said the fluctuations in these currents could also be responsible for much of the rise in global temperatures seen over the past 30 years.

Latif is a key member of the UN's climate research arm, which has long promoted the concept of global warming. He told the Daily Mail that "a significant share of the warming we saw from 1980 to 2000 and at earlier periods in the 20th Century was due to these cycles -- perhaps as much as 50 percent."

According to the U.S. National Snow and Ice Data Center in Colorado, the warming of the Earth since 1900 is due to natural oceanic cycles, and not man-made greenhouse gases. The agency also reports that Arctic summer sea ice has increased by 409,000 square miles, or 26 per cent, since 2007.

Many parts of the world have been suffering through record-setting snowfalls and arctic temperatures. The Midwest saw wind chills as low as 49 degrees below zero last week, while Europe saw snows so heavy that Eurostar train service and air travel were canceled across much of the continent. In Asia, Beijing was hit by its heaviest snowfall in 60 years.

Good one! I enjoyed the irony of your post because I hadn't realized you were such a greener.

Latif is actually a proponent of climate change:

http://www.npr.org/templates/story/story.php?storyId=120668812

RAZ: Now, your research, Dr. Latif, has been cited by climate change skeptics here in the U.S., by for example, George Will, a conservative columnist with the Washington Post, to show that the Earth actually goes through natural warming and cooling trends and that climate change is really being overhyped. Do you think your work is being misused?

Dr. LATIF: Yes. It is misused. I must say this, unfortunately, because these changes we are talking about, these short-term changes, you know, their amplitudes are much smaller than the long-term warming trends. So we are talking about a hold, okay, in the last 10 years. We are not talking about a net cooling to, say, (unintelligible) temperatures, (unintelligible), you know, which we observed 100 years ago or so. Okay, and also what we predicted for the future is basically that this hold may continue for another 10 years or so, okay, but we did not predict a cooling. We basically said that we would stay for some more years on this plateau.

RAZ: Just to clarify, you are not a climate change skeptic.

Dr. LATIF: If my name was not Mojib Latif, my name would be global warming. So I really believe in Global Warming. Okay. However, you know, we have to accept that there are these natural fluctuations, and therefore, the temperature may not show additional warming temporarily.

RAZ: That is Mojib Latif, also known as Global Warming. He's a professor for climate physics at the Leibniz Institute of Marine Sciences at Kiel University. He spoke with me from Hamburg, Germany.

Mojib Latif, thank you so much.

Note- His name sounds Muslim so he must be a liar.

The reference to the National Snow and Ice Data Center is classic irony because even though there is more ice than in 2007 it is still at record lows.

Hell I might as well just shoot myself then. If the U.N. said it, it must be so, and I haven't got near enough fire wood stacked up.
One says global WARMING, and the other says global COOLING, and neither one is actually in charge or knows. ::)

i think we all know that this climate change b.s. (be it warming or cooling) is just another way for the government to control even more aspects of our lives.

Gore is the worst of the worst---remember when he said he invented the internet!!   He reminds me of an old saying that said "No one is completely worthless---They can always serve as a bad example"!
Yesterday is history--tomorrow is a mystery--today is a gift!---That is why they call it the present!

i posted it in jest...lol

i personaly consider myself a lover of the planet and all the wildlife in it. i am a hard core hunter and shooter. i do not believe in the slightest any of the global warming bull. you simply can not be a person hunter or not that spends time in the outdoors whether hiking camping or hunting that is not simply amazed and humbled at what God has created. no big bang did that, it was created by genius on a scale no mortal can match.

i have studied history in many ways and i can not count the times i read of the predictions of the time of the coming ice age or the coming death from drought and heat.

it is nothing more that a cycle and it may indeed be a heating cyle but a cycle none the less. volcanic eruptions throughout history have had some of the biggest documented effects on climate change. we as men will never change it nor even forestall what is to come hot or cold.

yes al gore did lie.....lol

http://www.usatoday.com/weather/news/2008-09-09-farmers-almanac_N.htm

The Old Farmer's Almanac is going further out on a limb than usual this year, not only forecasting a cooler winter, but looking ahead decades to suggest we are in for global cooling, not warming.

http://farmwars.info/?p=2128

Hey, Al Gore! Add this to your “global warming” fraud list of things to ignore. The Farmer’s Almanac is right 80-85% of the time, and is predicting extreme cold.

Dreaming of a white Christmas?

Source: Farmer’s Almanac

Dreaming of a white Christmas? According to the world-famous Farmers’ Almanac, many Americans just may get that wish this year.

One of the most common questions the editors of the Farmers’ Almanac field each year is whether or not a given location will have a white Christmas. According to the National Oceanic and Atmospheric Administration, the overall chances of a white Christmas are statistically quite slim for most areas of the United States. Mid-Atlantic cities like New York City and Philadelphia get snow on Christmas only about 10 percent of the time, while Bostonians see snow on Christmas less than 23 percent of the time, and even snowy locales like Chicago and Denver stand only a 50 percent chance of having a white Christmas.

Though winter officially begins on Monday, December 21, some areas have already seen their share of wintry weather, with icy temperatures and heavy snow descending earlier than usual along portions of the East Coast and central Plains. The 2010 edition of the Farmers’ Almanac’s frigid forecast for the rest of the season offers no respite in sight, especially for states in the center of the country. While that prognosis may sound bleak to some, the good news is that a white Christmas may be on tap for many regions this year, including New England, the Great Lakes, Plains states and the Rocky Mountains.

“Old Man Winter’s grip will be tight this winter, but that hold will be mostly isolated on the middle of the country. This colder area at the center of the country will act like the ice-cold filling sandwiched between the relatively warmer coastal regions,” says Peter Geiger, Philom., editor of the 193-year-old publication.

“Very cold and bitterly cold” is how the Farmers’ Almanac describes the winter in the Great Lakes, Plains, and South Central states, while temperatures on the East and West Coasts will be more in line with average to normal winter conditions. For residents of the East Coast, who bore most of the brunt of last winter’s fury, this may be good news, but the prediction of an “ice cold sandwich” is sure to send chills down the spines of Midwesterners.

The Farmers’ Almanac is calling for heavy snow in the Great Lakes and Plains regions this winter, with a rainy season in the South, and close to normal precipitation in most other regions of the country.

While nearly three-quarters of the country is expected to see near or below average precipitation this winter, significant snowfalls are forecast for parts of every zone. Residents of Mid-Atlantic and Northeast states can expect some a major snowfall in mid-February, with possible blizzard conditions in New England.

“People on the coasts shouldn’t think they’re off the hook just because we’re predicting milder winter weather for them. Shovelry is most certainly not dead,” warns Geiger.

The Farmers’ Almanac bases its long-range weather forecasts on a top-secret mathematical and astronomical formula that figures in sunspot activity, tidal action, the position of the planet in relation to the Sun, as well as a number of other factors. Faithful readers of the Farmers’ Almanac estimate that its annual weather forecast is accurate between 80 and 85 percent of the time.

The Farmers Almanac has been my fishing and hunting companion for years, and a good buy. Where else can you spend $6.00 or so, and get important information from October to October the next year? There's also good gardening tips and interesting stories.

I think crustafarian just took first prize in the oxymoronic statement contest.  There is now more ice than in 2007, but it is still at record lows.  Huh?   ::)

do not be so sure about how fast the ice age will come. al gore said something like the oceans would rise and the earth would be a desert in 5 years or some ridiculus time frame.
