It's alive!

1936 Polish Radom 98 Mauser 8mm short rifle. I started to sporterise this rifle gone on forty years ago. Its been in pecies a basket case since. I was thinking of a new barrel because looking in the original it was very dark and could barly see the lands. I decided to try the old barrel if I could get it fairly clean. For two days I soaked it in Kroil then degreased and made a five dollar electric fouling bore cleaner. Fifty minutes later alot of green and black come out but the bore still looked dark. I brushed it out one more time with Kroil and the bore was actually very bright. Now I think I'll lap it some.

eye shot: if the bore finally came out bright you may not have to lap it at all. A properly lapped bore is so shiny that you can barely see the rifling, because it is so bright. If you got all that crud out of the bore she should probably shoot very well for you. Save yourself some trouble and shoot it first and see how she does. Just a thought.

What would be the best finish for this old rifle, cold blue or a spray on finish?

with the synthectic stock, i would think a spray on finish would be the way to go, no real upkeep that way.
i like the dura-coat, flat black or dark gray

I got the Fajen stock today. That old rifle droped right in and seems to fit perfect. The barrel is fully floated and didn't even have to rasp in a bolt handle notch. The gun emty only weighs 6#. This Polish Mauser is now ready to fire if I only had sights- scope mounts for it. Oh back in the early 70's I did check the head spacing and fired 100 rounds . I don't want to drill&tap the reciever because this rifle has not been brushed. It still has the eagle crest and F.B. Radom 1936 on it.

Let me know when you shoot it if that ati clamp mount holds a zero. Thought about getting one but wonder if they can be relied upon to hold zero
