Large Northern Pike tastes mmmmmm good.
« on: January 12, 2010, 06:05:32 PM »
Did a little ice fishing the other day on one of the local lakes. I had one flag at 4:30. The tip up was spinning so fast it was nearly out of line. After taking up much slack and thinking I had lost the fish, I felt some resistance, a heavy fish. An extended tug of war ensued. Not pulling to hard and also giving slack so not to break the line was a challenge. I finally landed a 34" pike. I cut off 2 large filets, cleaned them up and soaked them in a bowl of milk in the fridge over night. The wife basted them with olive oil and seasoning, then broiled the filets to perfection, the best I have ever had.

When they're that big you don't have to remove the Y-bones.  Too bad the fishing stinks here in MN this year.

Do you really think Cheese would invite you over for dinner with that ulgy purple helmet on your sign-off???? ;D

By the way, Sunday will be the first and likely only time in my life when I will be cheering for the Cowboys. ::)

Well now Buckskin, I'm sure Cheese is open minded enough to realize that some of us still like Brent. ;)

LOL Myronman, that is a good one right there. "The Quarterback that's still in the playoffs" LMAO  ;D When they take the field this weekend, I wonder if Favre will just come out by himself. "Come on you F^&*#!s I'm ready for you!" :D

That sounds like typical gibberish that always comes from fans of a team who haven't won a LOMBARDI trophy.  Sort of like the Lovie Smiths goal when hired as coach of the Bears, "to beat the Packer's".  It's flattering that the Pack is placed on such a high pedistal that just beating them or finishing one week further is a successful season....Congrats to all Vikqueen's and follower's, Bears will have to wait another year.  :'(  I will start a petition to Roger Goodell to award a lesser trophy for the triumph.  Maybe call it the Brent Farve Vendetta Trophy! ::)

Buckskin,

I guess you'd just have to of had Favre running your ship for 17 years to understand why many of us can still like (love) him so much that we would cheer for the Vikings just to see him succeed. Believe me, when the next season starts, my Packer helmet goes back on and Favre simply becomes the quarterback of the other team. But the Packers are out of the hunt for this year and about the only item left in the playoffs that I can firmly stand behind is Favre. It would be pretty hard to cheer for Favre without also cheering for the Vikings. I never in my wildest dreams though I'd be cheering for the Vikings, but hey, they have Favre.  ;)

As for this Sunday, I have a feeling that Favre is going to slice, debone, and overall make fillets out of the Dallas defensive backfield, much like Cheese did with the nice Northern that he brought home.

I was on that ship just as long as you, unfortunately the captain of said ship couldn't decide if he wanted to sail the sea's or give Deanna pedicure's.  Apparently he got sick of her feet pretty quick... And looking back at it, Green Bay faired pretty well in the Captain position. I will welcome Brett back when he takes off that rediculous purple uniform.  I can't see how anyone who calls himself a Packer fan could possibly cheer for the Queen's, I don't care if Lombardi came back from the dead to coach with Reggie opposite of Willie Davis on the ends.

As for Sunday, I have a feeling that Brent is going to choke on one of those pike Y bones like he's done every other time he's faced Dallas in a playoff game.  Maybe he will give the same amount of effort as the Giant's game...There is no way that over-rated offensive line of the Queens is going to keep Britt off his backside. I will be cheering for the quarterback that grew up 10 miles from my house instead.

Technically I'm just cheering against the Queen's of the North.  No matter if they were playing Arizona, New Orleans, or the Boy's School for the Blind.  Brian lost a lot of credibility with his Premidona b.s.  Although I know everything will be forgiven and rightfully so, when he sheds that  purple ugly skin..

I agree with you about the pike, its hard to beat. I enjoy it pickled, broiled, deep fried, and grilled. It rivals just about any fish you can think of if you can deal with the bones.

Its interesting to see the varying opinions about #4. I've been a die hard packer fan for my entire life. I own a share of stock in the team and manage to get to at least one game a year. Even so, I just can't bring myself to root against #4. Its hard to forget all he's  done for us. Since my beloved pack is out of it......GO VIKES!

those bones are easy to remove with the fillet knife once you know how, and it is my favorite fish for eating.

You guys won't be singing the same tune when he wins a super bowl or 2, flips a finger at Green Bay and goes into the hall as a queen. And he definately will if Teddy is still here.  When he puts the Green and Gold on again, I will welcome him back.  So who were you guys cheering for when they played the Pack???

Oh, I was feverishly cheering for my beloved Packers. At the time, to say I disliked the Vikings would be a severe understatement. But jeez Buckskin, take a chill pill or something. The Packers are out of the Playoffs, but Favre is still in them. I LIKE FAVRE!! I'm not ashamed of that. I don't care if he plays for a team that wears pink tutus (Cowgirls will probably go to the tutus in the near future). ;) The Packer legend will always be with Bart, eer I mean Brent. You can take Farve out of the Packers, but you can't take the Packers out of Favre. :D

And you just go right ahead and cheer for Phony this Sunday. He's a good QB, and he's a hometown boy. Maybe a little over rated, and not even in the same universe with Favre, but I'll bet he lasts at least one quarter before Jared Allen breaks him in half. ;D Just teasing Buckskin. :)

Seems to me farve would have been happy to play out his career in green bay, but the packers wanted rogers to be their QB- wasn't bretts fault, how can you blame him for wanting to beat them for the way they treated him his last year with the packers? Funny how you packer fans blame brett for leaving when it was the team that forced him out, now you are hating on him? GO VIKES ;D ;D   Take a chill pill buckskin :o
