Haiti..poorest country in the western hemisphere...

  Haiti has been hit with a devastation earthquake..here's a little opportunity to observe the comparison between words and action...

             So often we hear disparaging remarks about the USA. We hear remarks from the the oil-rich Arab states how bad we are and how we run rough-shod over others in this world.
  We even hear complaints from the European Community about how greedy and self-centered we are. The most self-centered little pip-squeaks in the world..the fat little dictators now ensconced in North Korea and Venezuela both take their shots at  us along with the evil Amadinajahd (sp) who is now butchering his own people, chimes in.... Sadly; along with some citizens of our own USA...
     Well; now is the time for them all to show just how benevolent, caring and pure hearted they can be...now they can show up the USA as never before. These nations are not in the debt ours is, they are not shouldering near as much of the war on terror as we, and some have oil billion$$ to play with and they keep claiming we are the greedy, selfish ones. Now, they can "put up, or shut up !
 
      To quote Gen Nathan Bedford Forrest, let's watch and see just who is "there firstest with the mostest"...

But, one of the biggest donors of aid to Haiti, next to the International Red Cross, is a South African ISLAMIC organization called "Gift of the Givers."  They have sent a search and rescue team, several medical teams complete with tent hospitals, and they have amassed tons of food, medical supplies, clothing, etc which is on its way. Nevertheless, many countries, including USAID, are sending aid. I learned about all this because at 5:00 a.m. this morning, I was looking for the best place to send a few hundred dollars for aid to Haiti. [I sent it to the International Red Cross designated for Haitian relief.] Send Money!! Nobody cares a whit where it comes from as long as the aid is delivered.

   If the "deal with the Devil" is true..and it appears to be (go ahead & Google), it is no small wonder that these poor people have suffered ever since. It was a noble cause...to end slavery in the French colony, but inviting satan in was a gross mistake. Toussaint L'Ouverture led the successful uprising with courage, but did they really throw off the chains of slavery ? Frankly, it looks like they have only changed slavemasters ! The  place used to be one of the most profitable colonies France ever had..perhaps some type of peaceful revolution, without enlisting Satan may have allowed the prosperity to continue under self rule.

I'm glad someone brought up the Pat Robertson bit.  He also knew why Katrina happened (can't remember what his reasoning was off the top of my head) But, according to him, Katrina was the fault of the affected. I'm still trying to figure out what we did to deserve that.  Guess I didn't donate enough to the 700 Club.

A local preacher on tv, one of the biggest churches in Lou said that it was Gods punishment on America for our coercing and pushing Israel into giving up more of their land to the Godless ones. I'm sure there were several ministers saying we asked for it, each with his own spin.  The same type thing has probably been going on since time began.  I'm not a big church-goer, but aren't we judged for our actions after we die?

"Their" land? Not sure how that works. It is in the area of the Biblical country, but was not created until 1947. I'm pretty sure if God was gonna step in and protect Israelites, he probably would have taken care of it a few thousand years ago.

If God is gonna put a wholesale smackdown on folks for their actions here on earth, why do countries like Iran and Iraq even exist?  Why didn't he wipe out all Nazi's with a terrible storm or earthquake when they executed 9 million jews? Or better yet, before they did it?

When it comes to epidemics, natural disasters and the like, some "religious" leaders just have a hard time understanding the old phrase "Sh*t Happens."  Instead, they assign blame and use it to further their agenda.

Oh well, I guess the world needs all kinds.

Well we been pumping money into Haiti since the Clinton years, nothing has worked at all so it's all been a waste, the money they will take from us tax payers now (without our consent as usual) won't work either.  It's all just a political deal now to make Obama look like he handled some crises better than Bush handled Katrina...even though it's been 72 hours and not one bit of help as happened yet...but we have had more speeches...

So there is a great big "what would I suggest" answer there for one...and if people get away from the political parties and politics and step back and just listen and watch...there are a whole bunch more things I could suggest as well....like maybe don't tell the American citizen your going to dump XXXXX amount of his dollars when your worse than being just broke already. So there is another thing.  

Or maybe he should not have told us in another speech how much it costs to send a soldier to Afghan....and not mentioned at all what it will cost to send a solder there...ahhhh...wonder why he left that out.

I would say that concerning any state, their first line of defense are themselves...the state failed miserably concerning Katrina , not to mention they kept the feds from coming in for a bit as well.  Let's face it...that state was told they were going to be hit in plenty of time, Bush called them up as well and they did nothing, had no plan at all. Even called off some plans. I figure if you add to that the locals there telling the fed help to stay away for even longer...it was a mess indeed.

Not being a Bush fan, I still have a hard time blaming him for much of anything there.  Just gotta be fair and forget my dislikes.

I really don't like the idea of every man and woman in every state sitting back and waiting for the feds to come and save them Yellowtail.  Makes no more sense than people in hard economic times counting on our government to fix it either.

There are many thousands in extremis there, right now, and we're close by with the resources to help, budget deficit or  no. Your argument could be used to fire every DoJ lawyer tomorrow (not a bad start to dismantling the beast)
