This could be a disaster larger than ever. I'm trying to get down there, but I'm not sure my company will approve it.
I am sorry that some folks here are so willing to condemn them.  I am very happy that so many folks here are concerned about the situation, kinda makes me feel better about humanity.

I was gonna post about that being the Christian thing to do!

Then the crack about Baptist came up! You lost me Pard! One should not alienate the folk he wants to be sympathetic to his cause.

I still think it is a Good thing that you do, if you do anything, and thats still a good thing about this country. One can decide where his charity lies and decide if he wants to help!

Sorry about that. I grew up in that religion and knew a lot of good, faithful folks. I also ran into many that were just hateful of anyone who was even slightly different. I still have not gotten the bad taste out of my mouth.
I should not have been so selective, I'm sure it happens in all religions.

Again, I apologize. Also, I do not want to hi-jack this thread, so do a little better job than I have done at sticking to the topic! ;)

Hey it's fine with me if you feed the rats, just keep em out of my yard.

There are over 900 people per square mile in Haiti, 83 per square mile here.

cabin, i will be the first to say i have absolutely no experience with earthquakes, and i dont think i want to have any.
regarding the building practices, i had heard the same exact thing as far as methods and quality of the structures.  i dont like seeing people suffer one bit, but i do  think that we will see more of this as time goes by as i think the world is living on borrowed time.  and i think we here are closer to the edge than most people realize.

I see Haiti as a barn with so many rats in it that they eat themselves out of food. The farmer feels bad that the rats are starving so he feeds them. They keep breeding and he just keeps feeding more and more of them. Haiti has over 900 people per square mile, its herd needs thinning.

Yep.....it is almost as bad as New Jersey (1,171.1 per sq. mi.).  Or how about DC (9,581.3 per sq. mi.).  Another similarity between Haiti and New Jersey or Wash. DC is the form of government.........corrupt.

Not sure now, as to how to look at this situation. After reading about all the help this country has recieved, from both sides of the aisle,(U.S., Cuba,Venezula,Arab countries,)what makes it so different from our own welfare recipients. Seems the more we help them, the more they want and expect. I feel sorry for what has happened, but like an alcoholic, maybe the best thing is to hit bottom. Maybe this is bottom. Do you keep giving drugs to an addict, when after so many try's, they just keep taking them, or do you say no more, cold turkey time. Sink or swim time. gypsyman

Shootall that may be a good idea, but they first have to get the population down. There is less than 1 acre per person in Haiti. The population of Haiti is 9 million. Haiti could not support a population of even half of that. We need to let mother nature take her course.

what is ALMOST funny, is some people seem to think there is another option.  i mean good on the people trying to help, but in the end mother nature is in control and there isnt much at all anyone can do to change that; no matter what you think of it all.

The most likely fallout of all of this is that the USA will be receiving a flood of imports.  The chosen one will need the votes in the next election.

Anybody that has spent time in the outdoors hunting or fishing, knows there are cycle's in population. To many of one or another, and you have a die off. Diasease, predators, starvation. We've seen snipets of this in Africa, plagues in Europe,Spanish flu 80 odd years ago. Things just leveling off. gypsyman

I really do feel sorry for those poor people in that corrupt country.  The place has been ruled by criminal despots for many decades.  The US government gives away money to Israel and Egypt to keep them from going at each other.  We support "nation building" in areas where it is impossible to build nations.  But for  some reason we cannot help poor folks in our own hemisphere.

Have watched a lot of TV yesterday and this morning.  Collapsed buildings everywhere and there is no re-bar to be seen.

Hey, if Carter can do it back in the 70's,('78 or '79), and then Reagan gets the blame for the Aids outbreak in the '80's, this should put Obama right on track. History repeating, and we've learned nothing. gypsyman

I was surprised to learn that life expectancy is 60 years in Haiti now. I thought it was still in the 40s.

It's still 47, the same as it was in 1890, up on the Pine Ridge Reservation in South Dakota.

What a great post! Thank you Black Eagle. You nor I chose to be born where we are.  Some folks just don't get it, or appreciate it. They just take it for granted and look down on others.

So even though there are over 900 people per square mile in Haiti and at this level they can't feed themselves we should feed them? You folks who feel you are doing "so much good" are causing all these starving children. If nature were letto take its course Haiti would not be so grossly overpopulated. You do gooder are nothing but killers, causing starvation and plague on the people of Haiti. Go ahead kill a couple million more. The starving children are your fault.

And what does that have to do with the price of rice in China? It appears all you have listed with the exection of DC are capable of living within their carrying capacity, by means of production or trade.

Not a thing to do with the price of tea in China. I've seen your posts on this subject/thread - thin the herd, rats, ect, ?

You're a sicko with no sense of the suffering people are enduring. You vote Republican? Go to church?
Jesus said we should treat other as we'd want to be treated... and he didn't qualify that by their party affiliation, race, or even if they're of diff religion.
