I think Billy has got the situation right. I think we know he is right. A country with several million, men women and children circling the drain.
They were starving 50 years ago, they will be starving 50 years from now.
The Island seems to be gripped by those that have evil intent. They would never let a productive government take hold.
Someone mentioned education. It would have to be of the sort that changes the very mental process of thought, culture and most importantly attitude.
With that being said. I think we should try. Because we are people with a conscious and a creator that would expect no less. To each his own.

I've never called for anything with regard to Haiti. We have our own problems in this country due to people who think like you. Haiti, and only Haiti is responsible for its overall situation (pre & post earth quake) and inability to effectively deal with this disaster. They are a soveriegn nation that is supposed to be capable of supporting it's needs. It’s not uncommon that during times of a natural disaster, that other countries come to aid. Why you seem to expect something different in this case is odd.

The fact the Haiti government and its people have been incapable of rectifying their own problems for many, many years does not make those problems ours. Having said all of this, I'm not going to use an unavoidable disaster like an earth quake to make a bunch of stupid points like you. While there are still people buried alive in collapsed buildings and there are others incapable of eating because of an utterly failed system, your typing these dumb posts on your computer about them. Maybe you should take a break from typing and swallow a few adult pills before your next post.

Hmm, my wife and I sent $1,000 to help the earthquake victims in Haiti. We sent more than that to help after Hurricanes Katrina and Ike. I've also sent money to Chengdu, China after their earthquake, to the survivors of 9/11 here, and to the people of Beslan after terrorists killed their school children. I think we ought to send whatever we can, whether it's $5.00 or $5,000, because we are all human beings who share this earth for as long as God or mother nature allows us to be here. I can't bring myself to pass judgment on them because I, too, am human and therefore imperfect.

i hate to be cynical guys, but throwing money at a problem usually just lines the pockets of whoever the h.t.i.c. happens to be (head thug in charge). i think it is noble that you have the desire and are making the effort, and perhaps i am too cynical. or it could be that perhaps i have seen it all before, and i know how it plays out before it even begins. i feel bad for those people down there, as i am sure alot of good people are suffering. the fact is that haiti is another 3rd world nation run by the biggest, nastiest criminals that are there. corruption is rampant, and that is why they live in squalor to begin with.

kid yourselves all you want, but this is the same kind of situation that we have gotten involved with in the past. the situation in somolia, which was a huge turning point in my life and the reason that i eventually left the military.

If I believed what Pat said there would be no reason for the Christian churches there, prayer, or even trying to lead a Christian life, they'd all be doomed to hell. don t really grasp why god lets things happen..

So far, Haiti has received 3times more private financial donations than Katrina. That should embarrass Americans, especially since there are still areas devastated from Katrina, and Lousianna is still part of the US. Yes, some areas probably shouldn't be rebuilt, or be rebuilt on higher ground. I keep thinking that putting fruit groves in the lower areas could be good business, as land could be bought up cheaper, or used as community gardens. Any ways, Haiti will never be anything more than what it is, destitute, nonproducing, and ruled by a corrupt government. I sent alot of money (to me) to the Katrina victims via a church fellowship. But I won't send a penny to Haiti.

no doubt about the aid whether money or food about half or better will be stolen and sold. yet i know people are suffering and it does not take much imagination to realize that they need help in a very bad way. i would say i do not agree that we "HAVE TO" or that we should do it alone.

the fact is we do it because we are who we are "AMERICANS". I am not a bleeding heart but i think we should help them. i do know that they will go back to being a cesspool of poverty and corruption after it is all said and done. that is more a fault of the government than the people.

in my way of thinking turn off the cameras bad any news..then turn our military loose and let them kill all the thugs theives and corrupt officials. then they might have a chance as a nation after this mess is cleaned up. but we just do not have the stomach to do what needs to be done.

I'm curious about this. In my Navy, courts martial took place for violations of UCMJ, and disobeying orders. I've read the whole UCMJ; I don't recall anything about slapping a terrorist scumbag.

I'm guessing it's one of the first two charges?

Our present Governor General happens to be Haitian born and of course is howling for help. The Government is considering bringing in a bunch of them with a Fast Track immigration setup. LIKE WE NEED MORE LOAFERS UP HERE!!!

BTW Kudos to the Province of Alberta, they got more sense then to dip into the public purse.

I guess I am just a cold heartless person. I do feel bad for what happened to them and I do think that it would be nice of us to send some food and basic supplies, but in my opinion we should play NO ROLE in the rebuilding. There are WAY TOO many problems with our infrastructure to be rebuilding ANYWHERE but here!

The largest religion in Haiti is Catholic. According to the news it is somewhere around 80%.
Most of aid that come to countries like Haiti comes from organizations that are Catholic. It is a fact the Catholic chruch teaches it's followers that birth control is a sin. That is why so many countries like Haiti is starving to death.

like it or not, billy is entitled to his opinion. and deep down, everyone knows that there is something to his main point. i am not saying he is 100% right, or even 60% right, but i will say there are things to be considered. and, at least you dont need to wonder what he thinks, as he will tell you. dont ask the question or come to a forum to exchange ideas if you dont like the exchanging ideas of having conversations. oh, and trying to shout down the opposing view, that is fascism.

Yep I guess not wanting to feed starving people in an overpopulated place that has no chance of ever being able to feed themselves is terrible. If Haiti would have been left alone in the first place there wouldn't be any starving children.

How can any of you claim to be doing good by helping overpopulate even more a place that is allready grossly over populated? Seriously now I would like to hear an answer to that. You are just putting off the inevitable.
