Traditional fast twist flint rifle

What twist would provide the best accuracy for a 240 grain .430 jacketed pistol bullet when fired from a 50 caliber barrel with a .430 sabot. I  would be using velocities of 1600 to 1800 fps. with real black powder.  What do you think? 1:28 twist? Maybe a faster or slower twist? Anyone have any opinions. Bullet length would be about .685 bare and .975 when in the sabot.  I am not sure how to apply the Greenhill formula when a saboted bullet is used.  I am looking for the optimal twist rate for this bullet and velocity.

Since most inlines are 1-28 and many shoot the Hornady .429 XTP 240gr bullet well I'd suggest that...

i would think the formula is the same as the bullet leaves the sabot to fly on it's own almost immediately
after it exits.folks do have good success shooting the shorter pistol bullets(230-250gr)out of a 1/48"

I have a Green Mountain drop in flint barrel in 50 caliber with the fas twist.  It shoots the 300 grain XTP's really well.

Yep; the 1:28 does well with the 300 grain bullets but doesn't shoot the 240 grain .44 bullets nearly as well. The 240 is the perfect deer bullet for a black powder fast twist.

Try 250 grain Shockwaves in that 1-28 bore. I have a 1-28 twist bore in my Yukon and I cut my groups in half by going to that bullet/sabot combination. I was getting acceptable groups from the 240gr Xtps, but the Shockwaves were just a lot better!!!
