What do you think?
« on: January 13, 2010, 04:19:16 PM »
The security guard where I work picked up a NEF in .22 hornet.  I haven't had a chance to inspect it for numbers for date of mfg yet.  It comes with;

A bushnell 3-9 scope
Sling
30-40 rounds of ammo
wooden stock set (assuming pallet wood)

He is asking 325.00 for it... Seems kinda high to me for a used handi but I figured I'd run it past you guys being as i've been dying to get a .22 hornet handi for some time...

Thanks in advance - Sam

Depends on which Bushnell scope it is, that would make a difference.

Yeah, Banner or better, also is the ammo factory or handloads, I guess it would depend on how well you know him and his reloading experience.

Depending on the scope, I'd say a little high.  But I see the regular Handi's have gone up another $10.00 on the shelf around here, $269.99.  Supply and demand, the Hornets are kinda scarce in this part of the country.  BTW, mines not for sale! ;D  DP

Ok well in a strange turn of events I finally got the chance to inspect this gun today.  To my surprise its serial # is AL282612 which puts the date of mfg in 1973.  It says topper 158 on the bbl and the reciever color casing is pristine. The bbl has a folding rear sight on it.  It has a straight comb stock on the butt and the wood and forearm are both in excellent condition.  Scope just says Bushnell on it, I could find no trace of banner or elite on it so I'm assuming its a 50-60 dollar scope tops.

I took a pic of it on my phone.  I have no idea if this changes whether or not it would be worth 325.00 as is or not, but it was definately not what I was expecting to find.

The ammo that was supposed to come w/ the deal are reloads so basically the whole box is worthless as far as i'm concerned since I have no idea who reloaded them.  Here is a pic of the setup below.

Topper 158's are worth more than Handis. Low end old Bushnells might be worth more if they are Japanese.

He's saying that he took the gun on a trade and has around 300.00 tied up in it.  As much as I like this gun I'm not going to pay more money for it than I would for a brand new one off the shelf.  So what would this gun be worth if I may ask?

Those old Toppers are nice and light with their slim barrel contour, I wouldn't give more than $225-$250 for it myself, but they're treasured by many here.
