Sweetwater- next step is to go over the archives, find a mold that might serve well for 30-30, .308,7.62X39. Ought to be fun!
Lots of choices there!! And it is fun. Dee has some good stuff on I believe a Lyman mold. Mine is a (oh No!!) Lee mold - never worked good, but it was cheap, and the bullet is reasonable. I got some stuff from Harold Clark a while back that is pure dynamite!! He does a LOT of long, long, LONG distance target shooting. His preference is for Saeco molds and they do shoot, boy Howdy! And, of course, Veral Smith would fix you up with an LBT mold custom cut for your rifle. Man, the choices are endless. I think most times it's a case of "what the budget will stand" coupled with "right now". I go to gunshows now and then and sometimes get a really good mold for a really neat price. The deal of the year was last summer. My pal knew I needed another set of mold handles and found a Saeco 41Mag mold attached to a set of RCBS handles. $15 out the door - before the seller changed his mind!
The threads were stripped and/or cross-threaded in the mold, so I took them out to the next size, judiciously opened the holes in the handles, got new studs at the hardware store and all is well. Right now it remains the best of what we have for the 41mag - I only have two molds for it!
I still don't have a 30-30. I use the 30's in my 30-06 and several friends' 308's and 30-30's.
My love affairs are 35Caliber and 40Caliber. Specifically the 356W and 35Whelen along with 40-82 and, of course, the dependable 41Mag. OK, IF the .308 is a 30Caliber, then the .410 is a 40Caliber. My 40-82 is .409 so qualifies as 40Caliber and uses the same bullets as my 41mag.
This hobby is like a tree - lots of branches
