When did the recievers change to SB@ for rifles???
« on: January 14, 2010, 04:51:29 PM »
I was wondering when the recievers were changed to SB2 for higher pressure cartridges??

I have had many Handis with case hardening colors on the recievers and also the SB2s with bluing.

I only remember the "old" recievers with shotguns and barrels for pistols cartridges and 30-30, 22 Hornet,45-70, etc.

Thanks in advance for your replies.

After H&R Inc went out of business in 1986, they never made high pressure frames, just cast iron, H&R1871 made the first SB2 in 1987, actually late 1986 I think, but their cut off for accessory barrels is 1987 and later, and now only 2000 and later frames can be fitted iwth high pressure chambering.  H&R history is in the H&R Misc forum sticky, frame strength is discussed in detail in the FAQs and Help sticky above.

Thanks for the info. This is what I remembered, but you know what happens when the hair starts to go grey!
