Disabled? Yeah me too. Here's what I have had to do.
« on: January 15, 2010, 05:25:44 AM »
Got all sorts of problems.  Three time cancer survivor.  Bad arthritis in both knees. lots of neuropathy in both feet and hands, Short of breath , loss of muscle tone in the legs, lymphadema in the ankles and Afib in the heart.  Can't walk more than a 100 feet before I have to rest.  Used to go deer hunting.  Want to go again but can't even think about trailing a bleeding deer through the woods.

So I have sold off most all of my deer guns and bought some guns that are more fitting for predator hunting.  Am looking into what is needed for a disabled permit to run an ATV in various areas here in Florida for coyote hunting.  Plan on making the ATV into a portable ground blind.  Won't need to drag then out after shooting em, just let em lay for their litter-mates to eat.  In the meantime have gotten back into black-powder and am enjoying the competition at the range.  Have even talked them into adding disabled competitions such as bench rest and so forth.

So this how I am tackling the disabled problem.  Anyone have any advice I'm listening.

Thanks OB

First off let me say congrats for not giving up on your hobbies. I know a few people who dont have it that bad and pretty much quit doing anything ???

If you are allowed to use your ATV. I have seen a neighbor with a homemade on his atv. He framed it with conduit attached to the racks, then applied camo.  I have seen them on line

Could also go a differrent route. Build a small trailer somthing like this one. ;)

Keep us updated on what you do. I like hearing about a person with restictions and ailments, still enjoying life.

Both of those look good.  I like the first one.  I have an old John Deere 5 wheel ATV.  It has a 4 by 4 ft box on the back.  I have contemplated mounting a swivel chair in the back and covering it all like the first view.  It lends itself to making emt supports to hold the up and camo off of you.  Have even considered one of those see through/shoot through ground blinds mounted on the back.  Could even extend the camo to cover the whole ATV very easily.  Thanks for the post. It's got me to thinking.  Take care and thanks for the reply.

If you have a 4' platform on the back, I think you could find a pop up blind to set up on it. If you wanted a little bigger one, i would think you could possibly make 1' extensions to you sides which would let you use a number of blinds.

If you do decide to do a portable on your john deere, make sure you post up some picts. Someone else may need an idea ;)

If you decide to build one, make sure you post up some picts.

I am thinking this summer I will try makeing a frame of conduit tubing. One that can be folded up and dropped on a trailer. Covering for it will be camo netting for somthing similar. It should be light, and very portable.
