remington 510 help
« on: January 15, 2010, 11:51:35 AM »
I have a ole 510 that is firing when I close the bolt. I just replaced the trigger pin & spring to fix the saftey. Now I can`t get the firing pin to hold while I close the bolt. What could I have done wrong?

I can't see where I messed up on reassembly. The best i can see in there is that the sear is not catching the firing pin. I'll tear it back down and look again I guess.

heck out http://www.e-gunparts.com/products_new.asp?CatID=4276 for a schematic.

I think the sear can be installed backwards, then it won't catch the pin and that will cause the firing pin to release as soon as it clears the firing pin cam slot.

It looks like the pic with the sear facing forward of the receiver. I haven't taken the sear off the trigger, not saying someone before me could have flipped it. I'll flip it around just to see, can't hurt.
The sear is very low to the bolt/firing pin, about 1/8" gap between the two. I bought the gun from my X wifes uncle 15yrs ago, and it was broke then too. Well back then it was just a split hair trigger. Just touch the side of the trigger and it would go off. (very scary)

I think I figured it out so far. I tightened the trigger/sear bolt to tight. I backed it up to align with the staking marks. Go figure, it works now.   :o
