Take the barrel off, then cock it and pull the trigger, hold the trigger back after you pull it and see how far the firing pin sticks out.  I am thinking it should be about .050 to .060 or so.  If it is out far enough then it is probably just a weak firing pin spring.  Larry

Welcome John! I think Larry meant a weak hammer spring, it's not uncommon.

Brownells and Midway both carry new hammer springs, Midway carries Wolff.

Do you possibly think it might need to be cleaned or is this a pretty common problem . Ive had two other H&R's this is the first time I've ever had any problems. Thanks for all the help . John

It's not a new problem with the USH, there are several threads on past pages on this problem, if a change in ammo doesn't solve the problem, I'd contact H&R and have it fixed on their dime.

Went out and shot it again today with winchester slugs instead of remingtons and it worked like it is suppose to . Shot 3 winchesters and then tryed one of the remingtons same thing for some reason it doesn't like to fire with the remingtons,I wonder if that's a common problem or am I just lucky like that, now I've got 3 boxes of remingtons i can't shoot . O well at least it's not the gun itself. Thanks for all the help and suggestions. Thanks John

If pin projection is less than Larry's specs, you can always remove a little from the face of the hammer where it stops against the frame to see if you can get the Rems to work.  ;)
