missed beaver

i was checking my traps this morning and the foot hold trap was not in the trap bed. i pulled the drowner bag up with aempty sprung trap. i never had this happen before. will the beaver be back or did i just educate this one? any info. would be apper. thanks in advance.

 Trav,you probably educated that beaver.Thats one of the reasons I switched to 330s for all my beaver trapping.
 I learned beaver trapping with footholds and used them for many years.The last 12 years has been all 330s.

for 2 days now ,no beaver activey. should i pull out of this area or wait it out? this area is only about 50 yards long of open water everything else is still froze solid for about a mile.

 Trav, my guess is that beaver is avoiding that area right now--he got bit and is leary. If you can ,wait till the ice goes out,and you can move sets.

will the beaver be learey of caster sets , thats what the set was that he got  free from.any suggestion on other sets.

Use a  bodygrip in an bottom edge type set.  Make another set  but use sac oil instead of castor.... make sure trap is level with bottom of pond, river, creek.  offset two inches either way.  In using sac oil  use very small drop, i use the end of toothpick size stick dipped in sac oil put so bvr has to cross trap to investigate smell...   good luck

 Your Moundmaster should be there now,move a distance from where you last set and go again.Open water sure beats ice--any time.

yes got my lure.it is going to warm up this weekend,around 40 degrees. iam going to wait till sunday and reset,hopefully have alot of open water so ican go to town trapping again.
