I was talking with the CFC yesterday and asked, I collect the swede military rifles and still come across unregistered firearms, is it possible to register these? They say yes, the transfer is from an unknown owner to the buyer and no one gets into trouble. Has anyone done this?

Apparently the CFC is still registering previously unregistered firearms even though it is well past the Dec.31 2002 deadline. I think they just want to get them done. There is however nothing in law that says they have to do it and if you have possessed or do possess an unregistered firearm after that date you have broken the law if they ever wanted to persue it. Who knows how long they will continue, till next year? Tommorrow?

Then again, haven't THEY broken their own laws by continuing registration?

What to do eh? Your not alone!

I asked the CFC the same question awhile back, and they said I would need to inform them of the sellers info, even if it wasn't registered, for me to be able to register it. I said, does this not put the seller in a position of being charged for not having registered it previously? They said it was not up to them, as inforcement was done by the RCMP. When I pushed them as to whether the RCMP would be informed by the CFC, if such a transfer were to occur, they would not confirm or deny, that they would. It sounds a little funny to me. I think the seller would be taking a bit of a chance myself.

It would be great if there was no problem, as I'm sure there are a few good deals to be had on unregistered guns, as the owners might be a wee bit concerned of having them. Chances are they don't have a POL or a PAL either...

Now that the Alliance and the PC's have joined, I'm hoping that once they get in power (and that will eventually come to pass) they'll live up to their statements and dump the whole darn thing.  Then I'll be legal again.

Don't forget that this whole registration mess came from the PCs!

Isn't there already a CRAP party (ConservativeReformAllianceParty)?

What do you think Reform will sacrifice to appease the urban antis in our population centres?

as soon as the ontario voters (*graybeard members exempt) actually pull their heads out of their butts and vote in a real party, maybe there will be some changes. As for the conservatives, just remember: they may change the name, but it's still the same party that started " gun control reform".

Maybe the NDP can do a better job???  It  can't get any worse than this!!!   This registry has got to go before we loose any more money.   I'm tired of paying taxes and seeing it wasted!!!!

If the polls are coming close to telling the story- the Liberals are at best going to be a minority government- and thatalone could result in cancelling the whole program.Ifther Conservatives get in- which is looking entirely feasable- they have promised to can it.The whole thing was nothing more than a Liberal vote buying scheme in the first place. They looked at the numbers and figured the firearms owners[ mainly in rural ridings] were expendable  and the big city vote[ non firearms owners, or at least LEGITIMATEfirearms owners ]was worth the risk of alienating the rural vote.
